Why the Specifics?
Why the Specifics?
There are three dimensions of understanding scripture which lead to encounter
Historical (graphe)
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,
Doctrinal (logos)
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Supernatural (rhema)
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
What is Prayer?
What is Prayer?
We often define prayer as communication with God. This definition is not wrong, but we can recall many instances where people talked to God and it was not considered prayer
Adam had conversations with God in the garden
Cain spoke to God in Genesis 4:9 as he was being cursed
Abraham spoke to God at the Mamre trees in Genesis 18
A revised definition prayer is purposeful communication in the divine presence and council of God
Presence
Presence
Naturally, prayer and the work of the prophetic are closely related
The first time we see mention of a prophet, we see prayer (Genesis 20:7), this helps us see the function of prayer in our lives (Ezekiel 37)
The same time that the concept of prayer was established is the time where the first prophet arose (Genesis 4:26, Luke 11:47)
We see that ever since man left Eden (the first tabernacle) (Gen 3:24), there was a need for a pathway to God’s manifest presence. This is prayer
The Lord’s Assembly was
the covenant community of worshippers who could fully participate in Israel’s religious and civil life
A political and judicial body that made key decisions, including military actions, judicial verdicts, or covenant renewals
A sacred community, only those who met standards of consecration were allowed

Hebrews 8 and Hebrews 9 show us that the Lord’s assembly mentioned in Deuteronomy 23 was a representative copy of the heavenly assembly
Purpose
Purpose
The natural realm which we observe is the manifestation of things that are already happening in the supernatural realm (Psalms 115:16)
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, saying, ‘I will entice him.’
Now the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a harmful spirit from the Lord tormented him.
Prayer is not a place where God grants you your wish list, neither is it necessarily the place where God makes things happen (Hebrews 4:3).
In order to change our circumstances we must receive authority and partner with God through prayer to impact our world (James 5:16)
We must receive insight to the heart of God so that we can pray effectively (Joel 2:28)
Elijah knew the will and heart of God (2 Chronicles 7:13) and operates under the power to bring his will into manifestation
Prayer is where our God-given power [dunamis] (Romans 8:11, Ephesians 1:20) is made available in order for us to work out [energeo] his will (Philippians 2:13)
