King Jesus: The Ruler of Our Hearts and life

Bible Passage: Colossians 3:15, Matthew 6:24, Proverbs 3:5–6, Revelation 3:20–22

Summary: This theme explores the idea that Jesus is not only our Savior but also the King of our lives. We are called to let His peace rule in our hearts, to serve.
Ever tried building a sandcastle? You can plan and shape it however you like, but when the tide comes in, it’s all up to the ocean. When Jesus is King over your life, He’s the one who helps you build that castle on solid rock. With Him, the tides of challenges won't wash it away! Instead of crumbling, you’ll stand firm in the face of waves.
Him alone, and to trust His guidance in all our ways.
Application: This passage encourages teens to evaluate who or what is ultimately ruling their lives. By allowing Jesus to be King, they can find true peace, direction, and fulfillment, especially amidst the pressures and distractions of adolescence.
Teaching: The sermon will teach that submitting to Jesus as King involves a choice to prioritize Him above all else, trust Him in every decision, and open our hearts to His presence. It emphasizes the importance of acknowledging Jesus in all areas of life and following His lead.
How this passage could point to Christ: In the broader narrative of scripture, Jesus as King represents the fulfillment of God's promise of sovereignty and redemption. He reigns over creation, and through His sacrifice and resurrection, He invites us to live under His gracious kingship.
Big Idea: We find true peace and purpose when we enthrone Jesus as King in our lives, choosing to trust Him completely and follow His lead.
Recommended Study: As you prepare this sermon, consider using your Logos library to explore commentaries on Colossians that can delve deeper into the implications of Christ's rule in our hearts. Look for studies on the socio-cultural context of Matthew 6:24 and Proverbs 3:5-6 to understand the challenges of following Jesus amidst competing loyalties. Also, examine Revelation 3:20-22 for insights on Jesus' invitation for fellowship and authority in our lives.

1. Peace: Christ's Ruling Presence

Colossians 3:15 ESV
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
We need to allow the peace of Christ to rule in our hearts. It is foundational for Jesus being King over our lives. This peace acts like a referee, helping us to make decisions that align with His will. Encouraging teens to seek Christ's peace can guide them through the uncertainties of adolescence, providing comfort and direction.

2. Prioritize: Serve Only One

Matthew 6:24 ESV
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
think about this for a second who or what are you truly serving in their daily life. With the world offering so many temptations and distractions, presenting Jesus as the ultimate authority reminds us that serving Him brings true freedom and purpose, rather than being enslaved to the material or social expectations around us.

3. Path: Trust and Follow

Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Maybe remind the teens of the importance of trust and submission to God's plans. Trusting the Lord with all our heart brings clarity in the middle of confusion and aligns our paths with His perfect will. So what should we do as Christians ? We need to let go of self-reliance and embracing divine direction, establishing Jesus as the sole King of our guidance.

4. Presence: Open the Door

Revelation 3:20–22 ESV
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’ ”
You could depict Jesus' invitation to fellowship as a gracious offer of relationship and authority. This passage invites reflection on how Jesus desires to be an active part of our lives. Encouraging openness to His presence can transform our personal and communal spheres, reinforcing His role as the ruling King who seeks our trust and obedience.
You may sometimes feel like your life is chaotic and that you have no control. Recognizing Jesus as King can help you surrender your worries to Him. Grab a journal this week and write down all the things that are causing you anxiety or stress. Then, take your list to prayer and ask Jesus to take these burdens. Reflect on how handing control over to Him can bring you peace amidst chaos. Encourage your friends to do the same, fostering a supportive atmosphere where you can all grow spiritually.
5.Not of this world we are followers of God.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
As a teen, you might feel overwhelmed by peer pressure and the constant need to fit in. Knowing that Jesus is King in your life can give you the strength to stand firm in your beliefs even when it’s tough. This week, take some quiet time to pray specifically about areas where you struggle with peer pressure. Ask Jesus to lead you in making choices that honor Him, even if they’re not popular. You could also write down a scripture like Romans 12:2 and memorize it, reminding yourself daily that you're called to be different.
