Christ redeemed you & changed your nature. But now it’s time to change your habits with discipline. This isn’t a call to legalism… this is alignment with God’s purpose for your life. We’re so thankful for God’s grace and now it’s time to respond to that grace with our discipline.

Me: Tamagachi

Spiritiually God gives us a new lift in Christ. But if we don’t act like it, if we don’t walk into it, or if we don’t change our old habits… then we don’t walk in the fullness of what God gave us.

We: God’s given all of us His grace, but if we’re honest, sometimes we treat God’s grace like permission instead of power… let me explain…

Because Grace isnt a free pass to stay the same. It’s actually a motivator to uproot the past and completely change. Here’s the situation…
2 Corinthians 5:17 - We’re a new creation.
Romans 6:1-2 - Because you’re a new creation then you died to sin and don’t live in it any longer.
But here’s the question… If we are this new creation why do we struggle with old ways at times?

God: The answer in Colossians…

Colossians 1:13-14 & Colossians 1:21-22 - Our nature HAS CHANGED - We’ve been BOUGHT, REDEEMED, AND MADE NEW
Chapter 2 - They were dabbing in false ideas & teaching that was taking them away from Christ. Learning ALWAYS shapes how you live. What you set your mind and heard on WILL change your habits
Paul gives clear advice to Colossians & to us today… SET - KILL - DRESS
1 - SET - Guard your hearts
Colossians 3:1 - SET your heart on thing’s above - Your desire/aim will dictate how you act so you need to Set your desire. Set your heart.
Colossians 3:2 - SET your minds.
2 - KILL - Remove what doesn’t belong
Colossians 3:5 - PUT to death. God gives you the power to put things to death.
Colossians 3:7-8 - We have the power to RID ourselves of these things.
3. DRESS - Put on what does belong
Colossians 3:12 - Clothe yourselves with those things that are good.
The picture is clear God’s grace gives us freedom. It covers us from everything past, present, and future. It’s all because of God. YET it gives us the power to walk with discipline RIGHT NOW. TO LIVE IN A WAY THAT PREVIEWS ETERNITY
This isn’t legalism… You’re ALREADY REDEEMED. You don’t have to in order to get God’s love & grace. YOU GET TO because of His love & grace
There’s a theological concept for this: - Justification - God declares you righteous, your sins are forgiven, and you are in right standing with Him INSTANTLY - Sanctification - Being set apart’ and becoming more like Jesus. - Positional Sanctification- It’s who you already are because of Jesus. You’re already set apart (Colossians 1) - Progressive Sanctification - On going process of living it out. This is where SET KILL DRESS comes into play. (Colossians 3)

You: Listen to me… Christ redeemed you and changed your nature. You ALREADY are redeemed, loved, and new — so now it’s time to change your habits through discipline.”

You’re not earning any love. You’re walking in alignment with the person God has made you to be through the power and blood of Jesus Christ
Answer these in your hearts before God… Set: What have you been setting your heart and mind on lately? Kill: What needs to die on your life right now? Dress: What Christ like things do you need to put on this week?
How often do we pray for God to take something away, when He’s already given us the authority to remove it ourselves? YOU HAVE THIS POWER RIGHT NOW
Some of us let Tiktok decide our thoughts, our moods, our actions. Some of us let the news… Some of us let relationships… Some of us let the past… But you have the power given by God to allow His word, His grace, His love to completely transform you in the present to reflect the new you He made.

We:

I had a tamagachi but I wasn’t acting like a pet owner.
Some of us have been given a new life in Christ but we arn’t acting like it.
Maybe you’re hearing this for the first time and you need grace and a new life in Christ
Let’s be a church that lives as a preview for eternity together. This isn’t just for some of us… okay? We all have something we could be Setting, Killing, or Dressing.
