In Romans 11:22 we find a wonderful passage that demonstrates the beauty of God’s goodness, kindness, and generosity. In Romans 11:22 we read…
Romans 11:22 NKJV
22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.
The Greek word for the word “goodness” here “actually means, according to Vines, “not merely goodness as a quality, rather it is goodness in action, goodness expressing itself in deeds.”
The great apostle Paul wanted the church at Rome and subsequently each child of God today, to open their eyes to the innumerable expressions of goodness, kindness, and generosity that God has continually shown them.
The psalmist would remind us of this this way…
Psalm 23:6 NKJV
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Psalm 31:19 NKJV
19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!
Psalm 52:1 NKJV
1 Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The goodness of God endures continually.
It is suffice to say that God is good, kind, and generous beyond measure and we see this both physically in our lives and spiritually as well.
Physically speaking we God taking care of his creation especially his children.
Acts 14:17 ESV
17 Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”
Psalm 37:25 ESV
25 I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.
Spiritually speaking we find the same thing with God taking care of his children.
Romans 5:8–9 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
Ephesians 1:3 NKJV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ
2 Peter 1:3 NKJV
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue
Romans 8:28 ESV
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
The fact of the matter is every person created by God and especially those that are part of the household of God have been blessed far beyond any measure by our God who continually shows us goodness, kindness, and generosity.
If we would spend more time count our blessings, reflecting on God’s goodness and thanking him for all his wonderful works, our complaining would be far and few between and instead we would be “thanking the Lord for his steadfast love.”
Psalm 107:8–9 NKJV
8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
Let us never lose sight of the “goodness of our God.
