Video: Sermon Bumper - A Faithful Investiment
Title of the Message this Morning is:
A Faithful Investment
A Faithful Investment
Main idea:
Investing wisely takes time, energy, and diligence.
We know this because we see it every day around us in the world.
When we apply these same principles to the Kingdom of God, we want to be counted as good and faithful stewards of all that God has entrusted us with.
At the end of the day we just want to hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Prayer: “
Lord, thank you for entrusting me with gifts, abilities, and resources in this life.
I pray you’d help me to invest faithfully in your kingdom and your purposes.”
Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30, Psalm 139:13-14, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
(All scripture is taken from the NIV unless otherwise noted)
Introduction
Introduction
I imagine we’ve all heard of investing before… and we also understand, on some level, that it’s important to invest wisely if you’re going to be investing.
No one wants to just throw their hard earned money away…
So, while this is a sermon about spiritual investment, we know that investing wisely offers a wide range of temporal benefits, both in the short term and the long term.
Here are just a few of the key advantages of making prudent investment decisions here on earth:
Wealth accumulation:
Wise investments can help your money grow over time, allowing you to build wealth and achieve your financial goals.
Financial security:
Investing can provide a source of income, capital growth, or both, which can enhance your financial security and provide a safety net for unexpected expenses or emergencies.
Retirement planning:
Smart investing is essential for building a retirement nest egg. By consistently saving and investing over time, you can secure your financial future and maintain a comfortable lifestyle in retirement.
Passive income:
Some investments, such as dividend-paying stocks, real estate, or bonds, can generate passive income, which can supplement your primary source of income and improve your quality of life.
Financial goals achievement:
Investing wisely can help you reach specific financial goals, such as buying a home, funding your children's education, starting a business, or taking an exotic vacation.
Education and personal growth:
Learning about investment strategies, financial markets, and economic trends can be intellectually stimulating and can lead to personal growth and financial literacy.
If you have a financial planner or you’ve ever tuned into Dave Ramsey before I’m sure you’ve heard some of these things…
And if you’ve had the further opportunity to put some of them into practice through investments, savings, planning, etc… then you also know how great it can feel to see your money grow over time and to feel that you have in fact made wise decisions with what God has given you.
It feels good to be a good steward.
It feels good to be faithful and wise.
Conveniently, our passage today tells the story of 3 stewards and their specific investment strategies.
Through this parable we can see that Jesus is trying to teach us about the kingdom of heaven.
He’s using some well known investment principles to point us back to heaven and to help us grow in our faith.
The truth is, at the end of it all we just want to hear those amazing words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Main Teaching
Main Teaching
Read Matthew 25:14-30
Entrusted by God
Entrusted by God
(Matthew 25:14-15)
“The parable begins with a master entrusting 'talents' to his servants before setting out on a long journey.
One servant receives five talents, another receives three, and the final is granted just one talent.
Although today's scholars express some disagreement as to the exact meaning of 'talent' in this parable, all agree that it must be of significant worth — valuable gold or silver, for example.
[1]” Throughout this passage the term talent, or gold, would’ve probably been worth about 20 years of a day laborer’s wage…
So whatever the “talent” was actually worth it seems that most scholars agree it was a SIGNIFICANT amount of wealth.
It was a significant investment that the master gave his servants to look after.
In order to understand the gravity of the parable we must first understand the significance of the investment…
It wasn’t a small sum.
It wasn’t like opening a savings account for the kids and getting a $5 bonus added to the account.
In the parable we’re talking about massive sums of wealth and money.
Similarly, God entrusts us with talent, gifting, and ability in this life.
Sometimes we look at ourselves and wonder, “what am I good at?
What’s my gifting?”
I think that one of the realities that this parable conveys is that whether it’s 5 talents, 2 talents, or 1 talent, we’ve all been entrusted with something.
This truth seems to agree with other passages in the bible like Psalm 139:13-14 which says,
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
And 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 which says,
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”
I hope you understand what these scriptures are saying…
You are wonderfully made and created with giftings and abilities that have a specific purpose and place.
Your ability to make an income, raise a family, build a house, create community, volunteer, sing, or make others laugh…
All of these things are divinely apportioned and intentioned in our lives…
We have been entrusted with these things and the next obvious question is, “what are we going to do about it?”
Faithful Stewardship and Diligent Work
Faithful Stewardship and Diligent Work
(Matthew 25:16-23)
As we read this section of scripture I want to take a moment to remind everyone here that we are saved by grace, not works…
We could even say that we are saved to good works, not by good works. Which seems to be what Ephesians 2:8-10 is trying to communicate to us.
Read Ephesians 2:8-10
With that in mind, this parable highlights the importance of faithful and wise investment of the resources God has entrusted us with.
As we read we see that two of the servants worked diligently to double their initial investments.
They were both commended for their work.
Their example brings to light an amazing truth;
Our faithfulness is measured not by the initial amount we receive but by what we do with what we have.
Are we using our gifts and resources for God's glory and the benefit of His kingdom?
Are we being diligent and wise with what we’ve been entrusted with?
Let me give you an example of people who are using their resources for God’s glory and the benefit of His Kingdom!
Faith Vision Christian Ministries is working in God’s Kingdom to train men and women to become disciples of Jesus to help spread the gospel through out the world.
There are people associated with Faith Vision who give to our ministry to help us stay current with our montly bills, and enabling us to give to children charities, and to people in need.
God has blessed Faith Vision with people who are using ther resources to futher Gods Kingdom by giving to our ministry.
If we were audited today and forced to take account of our returns/investments what would the reporting show?
A faithful investment involves taking initiative, using our talents wisely, and seeking opportunities to serve and grow in God's service.
It's about being diligent and responsible with what we've been given.
We know this is true because we know how it works with our earthly checking/savings accounts.
We know that a 10% return is better than a 1% return.
We know that investing all our money in lottery scratchers isn’t as effective as investing in a mutual fund or real estate.
We understand this because these principles are all around us all the time.
We know there are both positive and negative potential consequences when it comes to investing and we want to make good choices.
As I said earlier, It feels good to be a good steward.
It feels good to be faithful and wise.
At the end of the day all we want to hear are those amazing words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Very Real Consequences
Very Real Consequences
(Matthew 25:24-30)
Finally, we need to take a look at the third servant, the one who “buried his treasure” and hoped for the best…
Actually, he was scared and he was trying to stay out of trouble.
He did not invest or use his talent, which led to unfavorable consequences.
It would be easy to pick on this third person, as it seems so obvious from our vantage point what he should have done.
But as we all know, at the moment, things aren’t always as simple as they seem.
Pastor - share a story here of a time that fear or anxiety held you back from investing your time, talent, or treasure into something kingdom related. Share how it made you feel after the fact and what you learned from the experience.
Here’s the truth; God expects us to take risks and invest in His kingdom.
He wants us to re-invest the gifts we’ve been freely given, which are for the good of the community around us.
To reiterate, that’s what 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 is saying.
But, when we bury our talents out of fear or complacency, we miss out on the blessings of faithful stewardship and growth.
Not only that, but we miss a divine opportunity to participate in the kingdom and to see the power of what God can accomplish through willing and faithful disciples.
Remember, God doesn’t need us, He CHOSE us.
He CHOSE to include us in the building of His church.
Conclusion
Conclusion
In Matthew 25:14-30 we’re reminded that God has entrusted us with unique talents, giftings, and resources.
He’s done this for a purpose, for the building up and equipping of His Church.
As you think about your time, talent, and treasure can you see areas where you may be holding back?
Can you see where fear may have crept in?
Complacency?
Apathy?
I want to CHALLENGE you today to pray that God would renew a spirit of faith in you for all that He has entrusted you with.
I CHALLENGE you to pray and ask God how much should you should give to the ministry that is feeding week after week.
May we remember that the ultimate reward is not only here on earth but also the eternal blessings God has prepared for those who are faithful and diligent in serving Him.
May we all hear those 6 beautiful words, “Well done, good and faithful one.”
Let’s pray together.

Salvation:
Salvation:
The Word of God says in: John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you’d would like to receive Jesus today, please pray this prayer with all of us:
Lord I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I ask forgiveness of my sins, and I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
