Central Idea Statement:
Because Jesus fully understands our struggles, temptations, and burdens, we can confidently approach Him for mercy, strength, and victory over sin.
INTRODUCTION
Life’s trials can make us feel misunderstood, isolated, and alone. Friends may not fully grasp what we are going through. Even family can struggle to relate.
But there is One who truly understands—Jesus Christ. He not only knows our struggles intellectually but has lived them personally. As our sympathetic High Priest, He offers understanding, compassion, and the help we desperately need.
1. Jesus Understands Our Humanity
1. Jesus Understands Our Humanity
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus experienced:
Hunger (Matthew 4:2)
Thirst (John 19:28)
Weariness (John 4:6)
Grief (John 11:35)
Rejection (John 6:66)
He faced loneliness (Matthew 26:40-41)
and betrayal (Luke 22:47-48).
Because He became fully human, He understands our emotions, struggles, and limitations.
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Acquainted: To be familiar with, to know intimately, or to have a deep understanding of something or someone.

Application: When you feel like no one understands, remember Jesus has walked your road.
2. He Was Tempted, Yet Without Sin
2. He Was Tempted, Yet Without Sin
This is a crucial distinction.
Jesus’s temptation was real, but His response was perfect.
He never gave in.
This is why He is the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He is the ultimate example of what a sinless life looks like, even in the face of immense pressure and suffering.
He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Because Jesus overcame, we have a standard to strive for. We are not expected to be perfect, but we are called to follow His lead, using the Word and prayer as our weapons against temptation, just as He did.
3. We Can come to Him With Confidence
3. We Can come to Him With Confidence
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
The first two points—Jesus's humanity and His sinlessness—pave the way for this glorious truth. Because He understands our struggle, and because He has conquered sin, we don't have to be afraid to approach Him.
The "throne of grace" is not a place of judgment, but a place of welcome. "Boldly" here means with confidence, freedom, and an assurance that we will be heard.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Our struggles—our temptations, our griefs, our anxieties—are the very things that make us eligible to receive His help.
We bring our brokenness to the one who knows it best and who alone has the power to fix it.
CONCLUSION
Because Jesus knows your struggle:
You are never alone.
Your temptations are not impossible to overcome.
Your prayers are heard by One who truly understands.
Let us draw near to Him daily, trusting His power, seeking His strength, and resting in His compassion for us.
