The Priestly Blessing
Num 6:22-27
• 22 The LORD said to Moses,
• 23 "Tell Aaron and his sons,
'This is how you are to bless
the Israelites. Say to them:
• Aaron and his sons were to
say!
Can you say this . . . ?
The first expression of God mentioned
in the bible, is blessing!
When God created life he blessed it.
Gen. 1:21 So God created . . . Birds and
fish . . . And God saw that it was good.
Gen. 1:22 God blessed them and
said, “Be fruitful and increase in
number and fill the water in the seas,
and let the birds increase on the earth.”
23 And there was evening, and there
was morning—the fifth day.
When God created mankind he
blessed us.
Gen 1:27 So God created mankind in
his own image, in the image of God he
created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said . . .
[the empowerment and authority] to:
•Fill the earth,
•Subdue the earth, and
•Rule over the earth!
The word blessing appears 400 to
500 plus times in the bible.
To bless in the OT means "to
endue with power for success,
prosperity, fecundity, longevity,
etc.”
The Old Testament speaks of
God's blessing in:
fruitful harvests, fertility, health,
prosperity, and the like.
Gen. 4:26 At that time people began
to call on the name of the Lord.
The summary statement of God
on all life and mankind is blessing!
From Adam to Noah
Gen. 5:1 This is the written account of
Adam’s family line.
When God created mankind, he made
them in the likeness of God. 2 He
created them male and female and
blessed them. And he named them
“Mankind” when they were created.
I. The Promised Blessing.
Genesis 12: 1 – 7.
Gen 12:1 The LORD had said to Abram,
1 "Leave your country, your people and your
father's household and go to the land I will show
you.
2"I will make you into a great nation and I will
bless you; I will make your name great, and you
will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever
curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
Gen. 12:7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said,
"To your offspring I will give this land."
The promise of the blessings of
Abraham are yours in Christ
Gal 3:7 Understand, then, that those
who believe are children of
Abraham. 8 The Scripture foresaw that
God would justify the Gentiles by faith,
and announced the gospel in advance
to Abraham: "All nations will be
blessed through you." 9 So those
who have faith are blessed along
with Abraham, the man of faith.
The promise of the blessings of
Abraham are yours in Christ
Gal. 3:14 He redeemed us in order that
the blessing given to Abraham
might come to the Gentiles
through Christ Jesus,
so that by faith we might receive the
promise of the Spirit.
Gal. 3:29 If you belong to Christ, then
you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs
according to the promise.
What was the blessing given to
Abraham? In order to understand the
blessing which comes to the Gentiles –
to you, we must define what the
blessings given to Abraham were?
We must look at the lives of patriarchs
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, the
Twelve Tribes, Moses, and Joshua to
determine what the blessing was.
Only then can we understand the full
composite of what ‘blessing’ God
promised.

Lord your God and do what is right in his
eyes, if you pay attention to his
commands and keep all his decrees, I
will not bring on you any of the
diseases I brought on the Egyptians,
for I am the Lord, who heals you.”

in trouble? Let them pray. Is

to pray over them and anoint them
with oil in the name of the Lord

show your wisdom and
understanding to the nations, who
will hear about all these decrees and
say,
7. We Declare The Blessing of
Wisdom
Deut. 4:6 “Surely this great nation is a
wise and understanding people.”
7 What other nation is so great as to
have their gods near them the way the
Lord our God is near us whenever we
pray to him? 8 And what other nation is
so great as to have such righteous
decrees and laws as this body of laws
I am setting before you today?
8. We Declare The Blessing of
Long Life
