Light
Light
Light is often conveyed in lumens.
The more lumens—the more light.
And of course the converse is true.
We need light when it is dark.
The light penetrates the darkness that we might see.
When the soul is sad, broken, and sometimes when the soul does not realize where it is...there is a necessity to hear from something/someone external of ourselves.
John the Gospel writer seeks to communicate Who that someone is...
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Let’s unpack this idea of Jesus as the “light”.
Jesus was not claiming to have more information...enlightenment.
Jesus was claiming to be the actual substance.
In essence, he was claiming to bare the lumens strong enough, bright enough, with ending, and with ultimate focus to convey a clear picture.
He is the luminary in the midst of our darkness.
What does it mean that Jesus is the luminary in the midst of our darkness?
“I am the light of the world...”
Theses words are not idle, but are the Word.
He pierces the spiritual darkness.
Notice this is not for just those in Jerusalem, Judea, Israel, Asia, Europe, etc...
So, He overtakes the darkness that captivates the soul and sets us free.
Further, He ministers to the emotional spirit as well.
18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Let’s read 2 Cor. 1:4:
4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Notice how the text says “who comforts us in all our affliction...”
The Lord does not work in your spiritual struggle alone, but in all that burdens the soul.
Paul says He does this so that we may also do this to others...
Our God is into multiplication.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
He works in us and simultaneously prepares us to hold up our dear one who is struggling with the same affliction.
If we follow Him we are guaranteed two concepts: we will walk in light and we will have The Light.
Why is Jesus being the light of such great significance?
The world is dark.
The world is void with light.
Darkness seems to overtake.
Without light men are blind.
I want to focus our prayer time on the following verses:
15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
