GENERATIONAL PROMISES

DEUTERONOMY 7:9

GOOD EVENING - WELCOME EACH ONE TO OUR EVENING SERVICE! TRUST YOU HAD A GREAT AFTERNOON AND HAD A CHANCE TO ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER THE LORD HAS BLESSED US WITH!

THIS EVENING FOR DEVOTIONS I WANT TO READ Deuteronomy 7:9

“Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;”

I WAS INSPIRED BY THIS VERSE TWO WEEKS AGO WHEN WE HAD A FAMILY GATHERING ON MY MOTHERS SIDE.

EVERY 5 YEARS ON MY GRANDPARENTS 5TH ANNVERSARY’S THE FAMILY WAS ASKED OR EXPECTED TO TRY TO COME TO PENNSYLVANIA FOR A FAMILY GATHERING

MY GRAND PARENTS - CLARENCE AND MARY WEAVER HAD 16 CHILDREN AND OVER THE YEARS THEY SPREAD OUT OVER THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA.

EVEN THOUGH MY GRANDMOTHER PASSED AWAY IN 2022 AT THE AGE OF 91 YEARS OLD THE FAMILY IS HOLDING THE TRADITION OF GETTING TOGETHER EVERY 5 YEARS.

TWO WEEKS AGO WE MET AT GARRETS MILL FOR SATURDAY AND SUNDAY - AND ON SUNDAY MORNING WE HAVE OUR OWN SERVICE FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO ATTEND AND ITS A VARIED GROUP BUT THE FAMILY THREAD CARRIES A LOT OF WEIGHT AS WE REMEMBER THOSE WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US.

ONE THING I REMEMBER MY GRANDMOTHER TELLING ME WHEN I BECAME A CHRISTIAN WAS HOW HAPPY SHE WAS TO HEAR IT AND THIS IS ONE OF GREATEST THINGS TO HAVE MORE CHILDREN IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. AND HER ENCOURAGING WORDS TO WALK WITH JESUS.

THIS VERSE SPEAKS OF GODS FAITHFULNESS AND HIS PROMISE TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS - I KNOW THAT IT HAS ONLY BEEN A FEW GENERATIONS FOR THE CLARENCE WEAVER FAMILY - AS I REMEBER MY GRANDMOTHER HAD THESE BIG YEARLY CALENDERS AND LINES ON THEM FOR EACH OF THE DAY YEAR AND SHE WOULD KEEP TRACK OF ALL HER GRANDCHILDREN ON THEM AND AS TIME WENT ON GREAT GRANDCHILDREN - AND REMEMBER ONCE WHEN I WAS THERE THAT THERE WERE TWO CALENDERS BECAUSE SHE RAN OUT OF SPACES ON THE FIRST ON WITH 99 GRANDCHILDREN AND NOW CURRENTLY AROUND 264 GREAT GRAND CHILDREN.

AS THE WEAVER FAMILY CONTINUES TO GATHER EVERY 5 YEARS AS THE LORD TARRIES AND THE CHILDREN CONTINUE TO ORGANIZE THE TIME AND PLACE WE CAN CLAIM THIS PROMISE OF SERVING THE FAITHFUL GOD WHO CHANGES NOT - HE IS FAITHFUL TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS IF WE LOVE HIM AND OBEY HIS COMMANDMENTS.

CHAPTER 6 OF DEUTERONOMY IS TITLED : LOVE THE LORD THY GOD AND CHAPTER SEVEN IS TITLED: DRIVING OUT THE NATIONS. CHAPTER 7 BEGINS WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH DRIVING THE ENEMY OUT OF THEIR LAND AND TO DESTROY THEM AND NOT MAKE A TREATY WITH THEM OR INTERMARRY AND IN VERSE 6 OF CHAPTER 7 IT SAYS WHY.

Deuteronomy 7:6 “For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.”

WE AS CHRISTIANS CAN ALSO BE PART OF GODS CHOSEN PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF JESUS CHRIST THAT WE SEE IN Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

SO IF WE AS FAMILYS - BIOLOGICAL AND CHURCH FAMILIES IN JESUS CHRIST ARE LOVING THE LORD AND OBEYING HIS COMMANDMENTS THEN WE CAN BE PART OF GODS CHOSEN PEOPLE.

I WANT TO READ SOME OF PROMISES GOD GAVE TO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL HERE IN CHAPTER 7.

I JUST READ VERSE 6 SO STARTING AT VERSE 7 THROUGH 16 -

De 7:7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.

11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.

12 ¶ Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

16 And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.

I BELIEVE THE SAME IS TRUE TODAY = IF WE ARE WILLING TO DESTROY THE ENEMY AND TO DENY OURSELVES - LIKE V 16 SAYS AND HAVE NO PITY ON THE FLESH - OR SERVE OTHER gods OF THE ENEMY THEN WE CAN BE A CHOSEN PEOPLE WHOM THE LORD HAS PROMISED TO BE OUR FAITHFUL GOD.

V9 SAID - THE LORD THY GOD - HE IS GOD - THE FAITHFUL GOD. LETS CLAIM HIM PERSONALLY AS MY GOD AND HOLD NO OTHER god ABOVE HIM SO THAT WE CAN EXPERIENCE HIS LOVE AND MERCY TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS.
