Intro and Tension

Amazing Promise;
Hebrews 10:19 ESV
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,
and
Hebrews 4:16 ESV
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Confidence = Boldness. Bodly enter presence of God.
Romans 8:17 ESV
and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Problem | We read these | Think they’re for someone else.
We think - Great for that guy in India | On mission | in Ministry | I’m just at my 9-5 - just boldly entering the kitchen.
Bible says - One of our “Chains” is - What Jesus did, just wasn’t enough, for me.
Today’s message is called; Enough is Enough
Series; Made for More, For His Glory.
Land second half of Hebrews | It reminds us, God is looking for people with FAITH and HEART to serve HIM and HIS purposes.
Pattern in Hebrews;
Chapter 1-8 = Jesus is better | Then = Sacrifice of Jesus | Examples of people who stepped in Faith | What we should do since we have JESUS | finishes with how we should live.
2 Key Passages today | Dive in, see what we can learn. Hebrews 10 | Ephesians 2.
Made NEW (not Better)
Ephesians 2:5–6 ESV
even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Dead, Now alive. Old has passed - Behold, New has come. (So much of society offering, better). Remember your story, but you are not your story.
2. Sanctified & being Sactified
Read down;
Hebrews 10:10 ESV
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Sanctified = Made Holy = Righteous before God. On the team
Hebrews 10:14 ESV
For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
Are sanctified & Being Sanctified = What’s going on.
Sports Team - On the team, but now growth.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 ESV
For this is the will of God, your sanctification
Speaking to believers ^
sanctified to reflect Jesus | to look more like Jesus.
3. New Sacrifice
Hebrews 10:1 ESV
For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.
Shadow = Fuzzy - Points to.
(for new people, cover that the wages of sin is death)
Hebrews 10:2–4 ESV
Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Explain atoning work of Sacrifices | Could never take the sin Away | had to be Human | John = Behold, it is lamb of God, take away Sin of the world.
4. New Covenant
Hebrews 10:8–9 ESV
When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second.
“Do away” - Abolish - Kill - Kill old way of coming to him | Old Covenant, to establish a NEW COVENANT.
Ephesians 2:8 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Law something we get tripped up on; Let’s settle here for a second.
Law = Shadow = Point to substance. There to show us our Sin and Righteousness of God.
Law broken up into 3 aspects | Dietary | Ceremonial | Moral. (like the Trinity).
Jesus said, first 2 gone.
in Colossions, it says don’t pass judgement on food or drink or festival.
Jesus said
Mark 7:18–19 ESV
And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.)
it’s about the HEART = Said didn’t abolish Law - Contrary = Expounded it | Look at brother with anger = Murder.
What did He abolish then? The Legal Demands of Law. Punishment.
[maybe quote]
Hebrews 10:15–17 ESV
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
Look at the Grace = Paul said Should I go on sinning so grace should abound? - If people say “You have grace, do waht ever you want” - That’s not love. because Sin = distruction, following HS = Life.
“remember” - Hold against - Egypt when crying out to God it says;
Exodus 2:24 ESV
And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
Remembered = act upon. What does it say - For all those that call Jesus Christ Lord and Saviour - not going to ACT ON YOUR SIN why? Been Acted on.
5. Once FOR ALL
Hebrews 10:10 ESV
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
once for all ? Sacrificed once, for everybody, that chooses Him.
Hebrews 10:18 ESV
Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Do we have to accept the gift? Yes; Follow HS = Yes. Offering of sin = Done | Tetelestai = FINISHED.
Some applicatiosn for us as we load up for Series;
Hebrews 10:19 ESV
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,
Confidence = Boldness. Not arrogant, but not timid to approach holy Place.
Hebrews 10:20–21 ESV
by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
That’s Jesus - What shuld we do? 3 things;
Draw Near
Hebrews 10:22 ESV
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
2. Hold fast.
Hebrews 10:23 ESV
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Formula to defeat enemy…Stand Firm.
3. Do it together
Hebrews 10:24–25 ESV
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Jesus died, so you wouldn’t have to do it alone.
—-
Going to walk through Hebrews | Get to hall of faith | A lot of people Love these guys;
Moses, Ruth, Abraham, Noah- they took big steps of faith;
Ruth was foreigner, enemy to God | Abraham laughed at God’s promises | Moses killed someone;
Did they do big things for God because of who they where? No, They did big things for God because they knew who GOD IS.
Come with us this series - Let’s set our mind on God’s Will - because you where Made for More. Made for His Glory.
Ephesians 2:10 ESV
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
