ME/WE
We’re in the Goliath Must Fall series. Every one of us has Goliaths—things standing in the way of God’s best for our lives.
There are GOLIATHS of FALSE IDENTITY, rejection, anger, comfort, and broken relationships and today…we’re facing the most common Goliath of all.
This Goliath is so pervasive that Scripture issues over 300 commands warning us not to bow to it. In fact, it’s the second most repeated command in the entire Bible.
Can you guess what Goliath must fall?
FEAR.
Fear—and its cousins worry, doubt, and anxiety—must fall. God is saying: Fear must fall if you are going to walk in everything He has for you.
Over 300 times we are told to not fear or not do one of fears cousins anxiety, worry. do not be anxious, do not worry.
We have NEVER STRUGGLE with FEAR right? ???Anyone ever been afraid before? worried before? doubted?
Fear of heights
Fears of creepy thinigs, snakes, spiders, and mice
Fear of failure
Fear of commitment
Fear of rejection
Fear in regards to finances
Fear of unknown “the what ifs”
Fear of not being in control
Fear of not being enough
Fear of health concerns
#1 fear public speaking
We all have FEAR lurking around the corner or in the room. It is is not something that comes from time to time BUT a present reality that we face on regular basis.
as I am saying this your fear is probably rising to the surface of your mind.
God is not surprised. He knew fear would be a factor and tactic of the enemy, world, and our flesh.
to have fear stop you from being all that God has for you
That is why the first most repeated commands in scripture address how we defeat fear.
BUT before we get there let’s define FEAR
What is fear? (NOT FEAR of GOD…that is different word in Hebrew…FEAR as we often think of FEAR to be)
Fear is the human response to a perceived threat—a person, a circumstance, or an outcome—that stirs anxiety, doubt, and dread.
Perceived threat is can be a REAL, TRUTHFUL threat such as a bear coming running after you
Most of the time the perceived threat is false
False
Evidence
Appearing
Real
Rejection is your real name
God will not provide
You are just a failure
DAVID and GOLIATH EXAMPLE
AND what fear is beckening us to do is to put your faith in FEAR…that person is right about you, your circumstance is going to fail,
Fear is not the abcsent of faith but the misplacement of faith into someone or something other than God.
Write this down
Fear is not just an emotion—it’s a misplaced trust.
we are trusting FEAR more than God
So what do we do?
-Do we
-FLIGHT (1 Sam 17:24…
- FREEZE UP (cower back in fear…Israel did for 40 days
- FAWN (you been overbackwards, people plreasing, for someone and give them what they want even though they are wrong)
FIGHT FEAR WITH FAITH IN GOD…this is what we are to do….but our fight is going to look different, as is our battle
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
HOW DO WE FIGHT FEAR WITH FAITH?
BY DOING THE 1ST AND 3RD and 4th MOST COMMANDED THING IN SCRIPTURE
WHAT ARE THEY 1ST AND 3RD
LET’S START WITH THE 3RD.
ANYBODY WANT TO GUESS THE 3RD MOST COMMANDED THINGS IN SCRIPTURE?
REMEMBER THE FAITHFULNESS of GOD TO GIVE US FAITH
Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,
WHY WOULD GOD WANT US TO REMEMBER??
Because we forget…
What do we forget?
The Faithfulness of God, the Promises of God, the Faithfulness of God in our life.
How often do we get worried about something, let’s chose money…and God says remember when you were broke and what did God do? Provided
Remember when you thought you fail doing that one thing and what happened?
REMEMBER WHO GOD IS AND WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
This are vital things to our life, water, food, clothing
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Hello you are more valuable
And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
We are wasting time
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,
yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
God says REMEMBER I AM THE FAITHFUL FATHER WHO MEETS ALL YOUR NEEDS.
YOU DON’T FEAR NEEDING TO BE IN CONTROL…HE’S IN CONTROL AND HIS WAYS ARE BETTER.
YOU DON’T NEED TO FEAR PROVISION…BECAUSE HE IS THE PROVIDER
YOU DON’T NEED TO FEAR REJECTION…WHEN THE KING OF KINGS HAS ACCEPTED YOU
WE DON’T NEED TO FIGHT FEAR WITH REMEMBERING GOD’S FAITHFULNESS.
2. WE ALSO FIGHT FEAR BY WORSHIPPING GOD
OVER 700 TIMES WE ARE CALLED TO
rejoice
give things
sing
worship
praise
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
When we do this FEAR and WORRY leave…
Why?
Worship puts our FAITH back in GOD our FAITHFUL FATHER
We have been there…
Way maker, miracle worker
Promise keeper, light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here, in the love of Christ, I stand
What God is saying to us WORSHIP GOD, PUT FAITH in Him and FEAR will leave.
3. Pray
Lastly, pray
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
How often have we thought it out, worried it out, but not prayed it out?
Application: How to Walk This Out This Week
Application: How to Walk This Out This Week
Church, this isn’t just a nice “Bible study on fear.” This is about a real fight. And you can win it—but only if you actually do what God says.
Here’s your Fear-Fighting Plan for the week:
1. Remember God’s Faithfulness Daily
1. Remember God’s Faithfulness Daily
Each morning this week, write down one thing God has done for you in the past.
When fear starts to rise, speak that memory out loud.
Example: “God, You provided for me when I had nothing—so I trust You now.”
This keeps your faith anchored in reality, not in “what if” fears.
2. Worship Until Fear Leaves
2. Worship Until Fear Leaves
Don’t wait until you “feel” like worshipping—worship until your feelings catch up.
Pick one worship song that reminds you of God’s power (Way Maker, In Christ Alone, etc.).
When anxiety comes, sing it out loud or play it in your home or car.
Fear can’t stick around when your faith is lifted in praise.
3. Pray Your Fears Into God’s Hands
3. Pray Your Fears Into God’s Hands
Use Philippians 4:6–7 as your guide.
Every time fear starts to whisper, stop and say:
“God, I give this to You. Guard my heart and mind with Your peace.”
End each prayer with thanks—even before you see the answer—because thanksgiving is faith in action.
This Week’s Challenge:
This Week’s Challenge:
Every time fear shows up—about your future, your finances, your health, your relationships—immediately do these three things:
Remember what God has done.
Worship Him for who He is.
Pray and hand Him the fear.
Do that and watch the Goliath of fear start to fall in your life.
