Chapter 9-11

The Hebrew verb בָּרַךְ (bārak) primarily means "to bless" or "to praise" and is a fundamental concept in biblical literature.
Blessing in the Old Testament is rich and varied, occurring approximately 300 times
Genesis 9 CSB
God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. The fear and terror of you will be in every living creature on the earth, every bird of the sky, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are placed under your authority. Every creature that lives and moves will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything. However, you must not eat meat with its lifeblood in it. And I will require a penalty for your lifeblood; I will require it from any animal and from any human; if someone murders a fellow human, I will require that person’s life. Whoever sheds human blood, by humans his blood will be shed, for God made humans in his image. But you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out over the earth and multiply on it.” Then God said to Noah and his sons with him, “Understand that I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you—birds, livestock, and all wildlife of the earth that are with you—all the animals of the earth that came out of the ark. I establish my covenant with you that never again will every creature be wiped out by floodwaters; there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.” And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all future generations: I have placed my bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all the living creatures: water will never again become a flood to destroy every creature. The bow will be in the clouds, and I will look at it and remember the permanent covenant between God and all the living creatures on earth.” God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and every creature on earth.” Noah’s sons who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. These three were Noah’s sons, and from them the whole earth was populated. Noah, as a man of the soil, began by planting a vineyard. He drank some of the wine, became drunk, and uncovered himself inside his tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. Then Shem and Japheth took a cloak and placed it over both their shoulders, and walking backward, they covered their father’s nakedness. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father naked. When Noah awoke from his drinking and learned what his youngest son had done to him, he said: Canaan is cursed. He will be the lowest of slaves to his brothers. He also said: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem; Let Canaan be Shem’s slave. Let God extend Japheth; let Japheth dwell in the tents of Shem; let Canaan be Shem’s slave. Now Noah lived 350 years after the flood. So Noah’s life lasted 950 years; then he died.
"Toledot" (תּוֹלְדֹת‎) is a Hebrew word typically translated as "generations," "descendants," or "histories." In the Book of Genesis, it's used as a formula to divide the book into sections, often introducing a genealogical list and related narratives. The word's root, yalad, means "to bear" or "to beget," so "toledot" refers to what is produced, the result of a birth or begetting.
Genesis 10 CSB
These are the family records of Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They also had sons after the flood. Japheth’s sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. Gomer’s sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. And Javan’s sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. From these descendants, the peoples of the coasts and islands spread out into their lands according to their clans in their nations, each with its own language. Ham’s sons: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. Cush’s sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And Raamah’s sons: Sheba and Dedan. Cush fathered Nimrod, who began to be powerful in the land. He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord. That is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord.” His kingdom started with Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah, and Resen, between Nineveh and the great city Calah. Mizraim fathered the people of Lud, Anam, Lehab, Naphtuh, Pathrus, Casluh (the Philistines came from them), and Caphtor. Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth, as well as the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the Canaanite clans scattered. The Canaanite border went from Sidon going toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and going toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim as far as Lasha. These are Ham’s sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations. And Shem, Japheth’s older brother, also had sons. Shem was the father of all the sons of Eber. Shem’s sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan’s sons. Their settlements extended from Mesha to Sephar, the eastern hill country. These are Shem’s sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations. These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood.
Genesis 11 CSB
The whole earth had the same language and vocabulary. As people migrated from the east, they found a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, “Come, let’s make oven-fired bricks.” (They used brick for stone and asphalt for mortar.) And they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky. Let’s make a name for ourselves; otherwise, we will be scattered throughout the earth.” Then the Lord came down to look over the city and the tower that the humans were building. The Lord said, “If they have begun to do this as one people all having the same language, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let’s go down there and confuse their language so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” So from there the Lord scattered them throughout the earth, and they stopped building the city. Therefore it is called Babylon, for there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth, and from there the Lord scattered them throughout the earth. These are the family records of Shem. Shem lived 100 years and fathered Arpachshad two years after the flood. After he fathered Arpachshad, Shem lived 500 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Arpachshad lived 35 years and fathered Shelah. After he fathered Shelah, Arpachshad lived 403 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Shelah lived 30 years and fathered Eber. After he fathered Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Eber lived 34 years and fathered Peleg. After he fathered Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Peleg lived 30 years and fathered Reu. After he fathered Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Reu lived 32 years and fathered Serug. After he fathered Serug, Reu lived 207 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Serug lived 30 years and fathered Nahor. After he fathered Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Nahor lived 29 years and fathered Terah. After he fathered Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and fathered other sons and daughters. Terah lived 70 years and fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran. These are the family records of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran, and Haran fathered Lot. Haran died in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans, during his father Terah’s lifetime. Abram and Nahor took wives: Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah. She was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Iscah. Sarai was unable to conceive; she did not have a child. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they set out together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there. Terah lived 205 years and died in Haran.
CHAPTER 9
READ THE CHAPTER FIRST
When the Lord sent Noah forth to begin life on the earth again, He reestablished some very basic standards of life.
62. Does the Lord believe in capital punishment? Which verse says so?
Genesis 9:6 “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans his blood will be shed, for God made humans in his image.”
Whoever sheds human blood, by humans his blood will be shed, for God made humans in his image.
63. What is the covenant (agreement) God made with man?
Genesis 1–11:26 (2) Covenant and Sign (9:8–17)

Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

64. What would be His token or sign that He would never destroy the earth like this again?
Genesis 1–11:26 (2) Covenant and Sign (9:8–17)

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

The rainbow is not something that “just happened”. It is a direct creative act of God that speaks of a promise He made to man. If we will be faithful to God through every stormy time of trial and temptation, we will always see that He has a rainbow of promise at the end. (See Job 23:10; Romans 8:18; Hebrews 12:11.)
65. Even though the Lord will not destroy the earth with water again, what will He do? 2 Peter 3:10–13
One day Noah was found in a drunken state by his three sons. This scene is important because from these three men come forth all the races of the world. Their reactions to their father’s weakness would determine the course of their lives and the nations that each represented.
66. What are the 3 sons’ names as given in v. 18?
a. Shem,
b. Ham
c. Japheth
67. How long after the flood did Noah live?

350 years

CHAPTERS 10 & 11
READ THE CHAPTERS FIRST
The Bible recorded careful genealogies because someday the Son of God would be born into the human race. Among these names are both good and bad men. Nimrod, in his day, was like a false Christ who began a false religious cult. The root of all false worship today can actually be traced back to Nimrod’s kingdom at Babel or Babylon.
68. What was Nimrod said to be?
“A mighty hunter” shows he was a man of great accomplishment and skill in the eyes of men. False teachers and leaders down through the years have often been men of great strength and skill. The one world ruler Antichrist, who will rise to power in the last days, will be the greatest “Nimrod” the world has ever seen. (Daniel 8:23–25; 2 Thess. 2:2–4, 9) In chapter 11 we read that at this time there was only one spoken language upon the earth, and therefore Nimrod was able to unify the earth in one common evil cause.
69. What did they want to build at Babel?
God wants man to reach heaven but not by his own strength and efforts. By building the tower of Babel, man exhibited his rebellion and self-sufficiency. His efforts, as they always do, ended in failure.
70. All false religions and other spiritual paths give some credit to man’s efforts, but what does God want to eliminate? Eph. 2:8, 9
71. How did the Lord stop the building of the tower?
People's ambition: The people of Babel decided to build a tower to reach the heavens, intending to make a name for themselves and prevent being scattered across the earth.
God's intervention: God saw their ambition and decided to intervene. He recognized that if they could achieve this, their capacity for further unified action would be limitless.
Confusing languages: God confused their language, causing them to be unable to understand each other's instructions and plans.
Scattering of people: Unable to work together, the people abandoned the tower project and dispersed across the globe.
Babel's meaning: The city where this happened was named Babel, which means "confusion," as a reminder of the confusion of languages.
In the end times, the whole world will try to unite together once again under the Antichrist.
72. In the book of Revelation, what is the woman’s name who represents the one-world religious political system of the last days? Rev. 17:1–5
Babylon the great
Historical Context: While the name "Babylon" refers to the ancient city, the biblical Babylon the Great is a symbolic concept that transcends geographical location and time periods.
73. At the end of this age, the world will unite together once again. How will the Lord confound men’s evil plan the next time? Rev. 19:11–21
