1 Peter 1:13–19 NIV
13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
1 Peter 1:13 NIV
13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
V13) Get Your Mind Set
Who, What, When, Where
Be alert to where you are, who you are with, what you are doing, and when you fall into traps.
1 Peter 1:14 NIV
14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
V14) Obedience Leads to Holiness
If we have been saved we are a new person, why do we still try to become enslaved to sin again?
Leviticus 20:26 NIV
26 You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.
God Calls us to holy obedience. Just as He set the Hebrews aside to be a people He sets us aside as well so that we can be a people united in Him.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, do not follow your heart, the heart will always lead you to and fro, but obedience to the Lord and His Word always leads to security and fulfillment.
1 Peter 1:15–16 NIV
15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
V15-16) How do we be holy?
Jesus told us the greatest commandments
Love God and Love Others
Others will know us by our love for God and our love for others
Love is an action and it is a choice.
1 Peter 1:17 NIV
17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.
V17) Reverent Fear Produces Holiness
Have you ever been in the presence of a mighty man who is Holy?
You act differently, you don’t want to seem dirty and you don’t want to seem offensive or let him down.
