(Intro) This month we are gonna dive into a series I felt on my heart for you guys and it is on evangelism in 2025.
We will be discussion WHY its important, WHAT does evangelism look like in 2025, HOW did Jesus and the first disciples evangelize.
First well go over what is Evangelism?
Evangelism- Is the spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness.
Now a days it isn’t very often to see people necessarily doing “street preaching” or street evangelism.
Not that those things are bad or wrong but some have found other ways to evangelize and to spread the gospel in affective ways such as individual interactions with people in our everyday life.
So we will look at the first question and that is WHY is evangelism important? and well take a look at Matthew 28:18-20
(Context) Jesus has died on the cross and after 3 days he rose again as He said He would and now an angle of the Lord had appeared to Mary Magdalene and another Mary as they went to the tomb where Jesus had been laid to rest and the angle told them He is not here and that HE is risen. They then ran to tell the disciples the angels message.
READ Matthew 28:18-20
Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
So in verse 18 Jesus tells them he has been given “all authority in heaven and on earth” which means Christ is supreme. This statement also indicates its an authoritative command, not a suggestion.
In verse 19 Jesus gives the command “Therefore GO” Because Jesus has the authority we are Therefore commanded to GO! It wasn’t an optional request. It wasn’t a “ if you want go and make disciples” It doesn’t say only if your a good communicator or comfortable speaking or if your popular. IT just says GO.
Now mind you who is saying GO to.. Its peter who was hardheaded and head strong and its John who would sometimes want to call fire from heaven to destroy men and its Philip who has been around Jesus for so long and still didn’t know him.
Verse 20 , Disciples are made through teaching and not neccasarily with words but first through the power of Jesus and the Holy Spirit in us.
At the end we have a promise that Jesus is always with us meaning we are not alone in this life. The spirit of God is in us because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
We are to partner with Jesus in evangelizing and discipling.
So we are to evangelize because Christ commanded it just before he would ascend to sit at the right hand of God the Father.
