Exodus 16:23-36

Theme: Contributor
Key verse: v.15
36 verses; 1063 words
Grade level: 7.9
Outline:
I. A Special Diet. vs.1-22
II. A Special Day. vs.23-36
Here we observe two TRUTHS about something God only gave Israel:

I. The Statements About The Sabbath. vs.23-31

The Responsibility Of the Sabbath Day. vs.23-24
A clear principle that is laid out for anyone: organize or agonize!
Organize your finances.
Organize your faith.
Organize your freedom (time).
Organize your family.
Organize your food.
The Reason For The Sabbath. vs.25-26
(“Unto the Lord” v.25)
The Sabbath is for the Jew.
It was never intended for the church.
(Exodus 31:12-17)
The Result On The Sabbath. vs.27-31
Observe that the blast is aimed at Moses as well as the children of Israel. (v.28)
Moses has certainly not disobeyed the injunction, but God classifies Moses with Israel even where Moses segregates himself. Notice that Moses does not fully learn the lesson of “sharing the afflictions of God’s people” as one of them until after his mountain-top experience in 34:9; observe: “pardon OUR iniquity and OUR sin, and take US....”! How different this all sounds from: “YE have sinned...atonement for YOUR sin”! (32:30).
Daniel goes through this same thing, and when he gets to his prayer in Daniel chapter 9, it is “our,” “we,” and “us” throughout.
Peter learns the lesson and graduates from “though all men...yet will I never” to “look on us” (Acts 3:4)!

II. The Mileage Of The Manna. vs.32-36

It was placed. vs.32-34
The “omer” that is filled maintains its purity for forty years, and the writer of Hebrews tells us that it was laid up in the Holy Place with Aaron’s rod and placed in a “golden pot” (Heb. 9:4). This pot (vs. 33) is undoubtedly one of those “borrowed” from Egypt. It is missing entirely in 1 Kings 8:9, indicating that it was either stolen or destroyed during the time of the book of Judges (possibly in 1 Sam. 4–6),
It was provided. vs.35-36

Conclusion:

Are you seeing what God wants in your life in His Son Jesus Christ?
