Matthew 5:1–12 NKJV
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Introduction:
Jesus pulls his disciples to the side and begins to prepare them for what comes with the crowd. He is training his team and he wants them to know what is important, In order to be used and effective in the kingdom. He was level setting with them. As he is preparing to give the sermon on the mount, He is letting them know what really came with ministry.
Power Principle: It is really important when we serve in the kingdom, that we do not allow the intoxication of the crowd to steal the focus of what really matters.
Luke 14:28 NKJV
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it
Jesus is about to challenge the dichotomy of the religious system of his day. He is preparing to purify the perversions that religion had created in the adulterated word of God. He is about to show them obedience the spawned from the heart as opposed to empty and thoughtless routine and religious rituals.
The Beatitudes:
Give us a standard of Kingdom Conduct.
Contrast they world’s ways (systems) the kingdom ways (systems).
They expose superficial faith.
And this morning Jesus is telling us the characteristics of those who will inhabit God’s kingdom. He wants us to see what it is truly like to be blessed. To be truly blessed is to be a citizen of the kingdom. Those are the ones who will receive ultimate joy and happiness eternally.

I. They Who rely Fully on God

Jesus begins by telling them:
Matthew 5:3 NKJV
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Happy are those who have a deep need for God. Those who don’t replace that need with anything else.”
God is looking for people who are desperate for Him.
God is looking for people who are dependent on Him.
God is looking for people who genuinely want Him!
Life cane easily distract us. We tend to make systems to keep us productive and comfortable. () Those systems can sometimes become a prison of apathy. However, when we focused on our
Ultimate and true joy and happiness comes as a result of us submitting to kingdom principles. This promises a long term result despite temporary challenges.
Power Principle: He does promise a life without Trail but He a assures a life with the stability of Trust

II. Those who look to God for comfort in the darkest Times

Matthew 5:4 NKJV
4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
While it can refer to personal grief, this mourning also includes a deep sorrow over sin, injustice, and the fallen state of humanity.
Jesus is not only referring to individual grief, but those who have an immense sorrow over sin and it’s effects in the world. It would seem that the world would is filled with trouble. But God is full of hope and promise!
Revelation 21:4 NKJV
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

III. Inherit the earth

Matthew 5:5 NKJV
5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Psalm 37:10–11 NKJV
10 For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Inherit the earth refers to a spiritual inheritance. That those whose choose power under control over aggression and domination will gain God’s favor. The meek are at peace with God’s sovereignty. Meekness is submitting to the will of God.
There will be a day that the evildoer is destroyed and God will give the earth to those who were of the kingdom.
Revelation 21:1–4 NKJV
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
