In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
Rejoice in your Salvation
Rejoice in your Salvation
Why are we to rejoice?
We have been born again
We have a living Hope
Jesus has been Resurrected
We have an imperishable inheritance
We have an undefiled inheritance
We have an inheritance that will not fade away
We have an inheritance reserved in heaven for us
We are protected by the power of God
Isn’t that cause to rejoice? It certainly is.
God is rich in His mercy and His grace...because we don’t deserve salvation. We are wretched creatures who given the chance will choose sin over God.
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
We don’t deserve salvation because we are liars, and theives
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
We don’t deserve salvation because we are adulterers at heart.
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
We don’t deserve salvation because we have unforgiving hearts.
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
We don’t deserve salvation because we are quick to anger.
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
We don’t deserve salvation because we are gossipers and slanderers.
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
We don’t deserve salvation because we are idolators.
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
We don’t deserve salvation because we are full of pride.
And yet...Christ died to saved us.
I think you get the picture here...we are sinners and yet...Christ died to saved us.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
We Rejoice in the Good Times and the Hard Times
We Rejoice in the Good Times and the Hard Times
In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
We know we are going to encounter trials...
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
When not if...
We must understand that there is always a purpose for your trials and suffering.
Produces Endurance
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;
and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;
and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Because you deserve it
Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;
In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
So that the proof of your faith may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Our sufferings, our trials, should point us to Jesus. Our trials should propel us to worship. Our trials should refine us to near perfection.
Peter mentions gold in this passage. I know a little bit about a lot of things, enough to be dangerous in most cases. But I don’t know much about the gold refining processing.
So I looked it up:
1st - Gold is melted
2nd - The impurites are separated
a. Chlorine gas is applied
b. Electrolysis
c. Hydrochloric Acid
3rd - Result is pure gold
So think about this...to make the purest gold.
Fire is applied.
The impurities are separated by an outside force. (chlorine gas, electroysis, acid)
The result is pure gold
Our trials are like the fire
The outside force that removes the impurities is the blood of Christ.
The result is pure faith.
Notice Peter says here that the gold is perishable?
That word likely implies (can be lost) Because we know that gold is imperishible. But it can be lost.
We love, trust and believe what we cannot see
We love, trust and believe what we cannot see
and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
We believe even though we cannot see. But the reality is we do see...we see the evidence of God in everyday life.
The sun that shines every morning and the moon that beams every night.
The grandeur of the mountains and the majesty of the sea.
The beauty of His creation and the womder of his creatures.
From the giraffe to the platypus to the T-Rex
His creation screams His existence.
And we believe in a Creator by the evidence of His Creation.
And knowing that there is an unseen Creator.
We can have confidence in an unseen Savior.
The Unseen Hand - Favorite songs
There is an unseen hand to me,
That leads through ways I cannot see;
While going through this world of woe,
This hand still leads me as I go.
I’m trusting to the unseen hand
That guides me through this weary land;
And some sweet day I’ll reach that strand,
Still guided by the unseen hand.
His hand has led through shadows drear,
And while it leads, I have no fear;
I know ’twill lead me to that home
Where sin and sorrow ne’er can come.
I long to see my Savior’s face
And sing the story "Saved by Grace,"
And there upon that golden strand,
I’ll praise Him for His guiding hand.
I’m trusting to the unseen hand
That guides me through this weary land;
And some sweet day I’ll reach that strand,
Still guided by the unseen hand.
