John 6:41–42 ESV
So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
John 6:43–44 ESV
Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
John 6:45–46 ESV
It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.
John 6:47–50 ESV
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
John 6:51 ESV
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
John 6:52 ESV
The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
John 6:53–54 ESV
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
John 6:55–57 ESV
For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.
John 6:58–59 ESV
This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum.

John 6:41 ESV
So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”
Here we are again...Jews upset over who Jesus is claiming to be.
I am the bread that has come from Heaven.
No one can come to me unless the Father draws them & through this I’ll raise them up on the last day. Relation with the Father and has authority over life.
I am the bread of life.
I am the living bread. All who eat shall not taste death. Authority.
He is the sacrifice, it is His flesh that is the bread from Heaven.
His flesh and blood are true. He is true!
It was the same way in chapter 5.
John 5:17 ESV
But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”
John 5:18 ESV
This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
In both of these instances, what do we clearly see?
He doesn’t back down on what He says, in fact He just dives in more. To the point, it is clear on what He is saying.
It is clear that Jesus is on a mission.
He is God in the flesh. And this point is clearly taken by the reactions of the Jews.
So one of two things are only true. Jesus is who He says He is or He’s a lunatic, a crazy man, a mind that has gone.
But were all sitting here today because of the gift of God and His sustaining Truth when the world says otherwise.
Miracles, testimonies, time, & prophecies all this show the truth of God, The Son, & The Holy Spirit.
Praise God, that His Truth is truth and not man’s. Man just says we’re an it or a being that needs to earn love of a superior being and through this earning brings glory to a broken, flawed, selfish being.
God’s truth of cross and its relation to us is the only pure truth! Amen?
John 6:42 ESV
They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
Perceived truths over truth.
We know Jesus and where He comes from.
We know His, Mom & Dad.
Because He’s a mir man of flesh how can He say such things.
We all do this...
God doesn’t want anything bad to happen to us?
God is all good, so this bad must be from the Devil.
I’m not really that bad, God will judge my heart at the end and see that I’m not that bad.
False!
Isaiah 55:8–9 ESV
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The promised Messiah, was to be born, was to be a man, just because your perceived thoughts, thought He’d be a might worldly king doesn’t make truth. The Truth, death is what needed conquered. Truth, justice needed fulfilled.
Truth Jesus fulfills the prophets prophecies not our perceived truths.
God doesn’t want anything bad to happen to us or God is all good so this bad must be from the devil. This lie is horrible! Why? Because our definition of good and bad are not always the same.
Some of our toughest times brings the clearest truths of what really matter.
A child’s definition of what is good for him or her to eat is different than what is true. Cake and icecream is not what is always best.
I’m not that bad, God will judge my heart at the end and see that I’m not that bad. We think we now the depth of God’s holiness.
Don’t let our perceived truths stop us from seeking real truth.
Don’t let what you’ve always been told reign over the Truth of God and His Word.
Seek truth! Don’t be lazy in this!
John 6:43 ESV
Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves.
John 6:44 ESV
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
This reminds me of a certain Pharisee advising the religious leaders on what to do with the “disruptive” disciples in the book of Acts.
Acts 5:38–39 ESV
So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice,
What is this saying? God is in control! Nothing is out of His control. From the exact way life lives on this earth to the exact distance of the heavens.
The same thing with coming to Jesus and salvation.
It’s of God and if you think you’re going to stop God of giving life to someone or think your going to cause someone to grow in Christ is flat out foolishness.
Some seeds grow and some don’t. Do we always know why that is, nope but ultimately God does the growing and giving of life.
The same thing here, we are called to plant seeds, water seeds but only one can make it grow. Only one brings life.
This is important, it keeps us humble in God, understanding that it is not by man’s works but by His.
Sharing the Gospel and living the Gospel is important but so is prayer to have man’s eyes opened to truth because without it, those that we’re sharing with are blind.
This should bring us great hope in Him, no one is outside the power of Christ. If God chooses to draw us in, He has that authority!
Walk with the lost, feed the lost, and ultimately pray for the lost but please don’t forget, it’s not about how bad you’re bombing it or how well spoken you are, just love them in truth and let God be God and do the growing!
So than what do we do? Believe, have faith in who He says He is. All good, all powerful, all knowing. And in this truth, we’re thankful for opened eye’s, thankful for new birth, thankful that we’re loved and through all this we’re changed to do good works. Not out of earning His love but in being loved and wanting to love back.
Well who’s drawn and who’s not? Not your department. Remember you’re not all knowing. As far as it concerns you, all are drawn and all need watered.
We are not the authority! Everything does not have to be ran by us!
Remember what Paul wrote in Romans.
Romans 9:19–21 ESV
You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use?
John 6:45–46 ESV
It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.
“And they will all be taught by God” is a reference to what the prophet Isaiah speaks in...
Isaiah 54:13 ESV
All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.
Meaning if you seek God, you’ll be lead to Jesus!
The only One who is from God! He is our truth!
And what is this truth?
John 6:47–48 ESV
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.
Jesus is the bread of life.
What does this mean?
We are not self sustaining, correct? What happens if we stop eating? Death, right?
In fact does not all life require food of some sort?
We really are fragile creatures, as tough as we sometimes think we are, if our gas tank runs out, it’s lights out.
But what Jesus is trying to get across is there’s two different breads.
A temporal bread and an eternal bread.
One is more important than the other.
We have a tendency to focus on one forget about the other.
John 6:49 ESV
Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
The one most focus on. The temporal.
Temporal food is important but is it the most important?
No, why? Death still comes!
What if Jesus came as a great worldly king and conquered Rome? What would that of done? Temporal relief possibly but what would ultimately come? Death. As good as a worldly life could be to the flesh with all its worldly comforts, the truth is death comes for all because of sin.
John 6:50–51 ESV
This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
This is the important bread to be concerned with.
The bread of life! Jesus!
Read verses slowly and expound.
This is true food.
Just as you need physical food to supply life to this temporal flesh, you need the bread of Christ to live, but not just live life temporal but life for eternity in abundance.
John 10:10b
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
In Christ there’s always a tomorrow.
In Christ there’s forgiveness.
In Christ there’s life with God.
In Christ there’s life abundantly without death, destruction, sin. Just Holy, righteous, pure life with the one who is Holy, righteous, and pure.
Revelation 21:4 ESV
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Oh how we see things are so broken and oh how we yearn for the day of righteousness! Where all things will be made new.
John 6:52–53 ESV
The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
John 6:54–55 ESV
Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
John 6:56–57 ESV
Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.
John 6:58–59 ESV
This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum.
I’d like to close with these truths that Jesus gives.
Now this is not a physical eating and drinking, I want that to be clear.
Some teach that the communion bread and wine that we occasionally partake of is the literal body of Jesus.
That after communion is prayed for that it is literally His body.
This is just not the case, the disciples didn’t literally go to try to find Jesus so they could eat his body and drink His blood.
It is a metaphor and symbolic.
There’s only one true food, food that brings eternal life.
Jesus! This is what we are to concern ourselves with!
Remember that old Saturday cartoon kids comercial, “you are what you eat, from your head down to your feet”?
In a lot of ways that’s the truth of life in Christ.
Want faith in Him in all circumstances. What are you spiritually eating?
Want to know Him more, what are you spiritually eating?
Want freedom from sin, what are you spiritually eating?
Want to remove the heavy burdens of life and carry a light yoke, what are you spiritually eating?
It’s Him everyday and in every circumstance.
