Prayer of Approach and Confession (The Lords Prayer is during Communion.)
Faithful Father, we approach You on this communion Sunday.
You led Your people through Joshua’s days, so to you lead us your children.
Your covenant endures through all generations. Thank you that we may enjoy your promises.
We gather to rest in Your Word.
Help us to be faithful to you through out our life.
Prepare our hearts for your word and for the holy communion.
We confess our failure and our inability to follow You fully.
Forgive us for straying from Your path.
Cleanse us with Your mercy and grace.
May our experience at the communion table remind us of your forgiveness.
Renew our spirits to serve You alone.
Guide us to live out Your covenant daily.
Fill us with Your Spirit to worship truly.
Let today’s meal draw us closer to You.
May our lives reflect Your steadfast love.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Reading: Joshua 24: 29-33
Joshua’s Death and Burial
29 After these things Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being 110 years old. 30 And they buried him in his own inheritance at Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash.
31 Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua and had known all the work that the LORD did for Israel.
32 As for the bones of Joseph, which the people of Israel brought up from Egypt, they buried them at Shechem, in the piece of land that Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money. It became an inheritance of the descendants of Joseph.
33 And Eleazar the son of Aaron died, and they buried him at Gibeah, the town of Phinehas his son, which had been given him in the hill country of Ephraim.
Sermon: (Rev. Bosch)
We had our 20th school reunion this weekend. It was wonderful to see all the pictures of school friends. Some of them changed in size and in hair colour, but overall most of them look the same. My heart felt warm seeing the smiles of joy ecoing from the pictures. Unfortunately, some are not with us any long one class friend died in a car accident and a other ended his own life last year. I was asstonished when I heard of both there deaths. It was esspecially the friend who ended his life that through me. He was a attractive and intellegent person, that never showed signs of inner turmoil. Yet, he is not with us any long, raising questions of “why?” and “how come?”. I started to wonder if he might have left a letter explaining his actions to his family. I do not know. Then I started to wonder about the legacy he left behind. Leading to me wondering about the legacy all my school friends has left behind. Ultimitly wondering what legacy will I leave behind one day.
We can then start pondering what we will leave behind at our death bed.
When death will happen toworrow, what then will we write in our letter to our family?
What legacy will we want them to remember of us?
How will we formulate a letter when we breathing our last breaths?
Joshua came to the end of his life and leaving a legacy. The legacy that he left behind was that under his leadership the Israelites did not forget God. Rather, under his leadership the Israelites served the LORD and they experienced the workings of the LORD.
The theological teaching is to consider working on a legacy of service God and being open to His Workings.
(Writing in a letter before death: “Lord I have served you all my life, and I am grateful to have experienced you in so many ways”)
A legacy that Christ left behind was also of service and a open to experience His father in heaven. Christ also left instruction to eat togehter, enjoying one anothers company. The instruction of communion is part of his legacy. A legacy that reminds us that we are forgiven.
I am forgiven. You are forgiven. We are forgiven.
Let us experience this grace as we approach the Lord’s table.
Offering (The person at door duty brings the plate to the table.)
Hymn: Communion Hymn - CH549 - How deep the Father's love
Communion
The table is prepared. The meal is ready.
Call to the table:
The Lord offers us bread. The Lord offers us wine.
His Body was broken. His Blood was shed. For Me. For you. For us.
The table is prepared. The meal is ready. Jesus is here!
Action: The tablecloth is removed in silence.
The bread and wine are set apart:
As the Lord, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread, I take these elements of bread and wine,
to be set apart from all common uses, to this holy use and mystery, and as our Lord gave thanks and blessed,
let us draw near to God in prayer.
The Table Prayer with Lord's Prayer:
Heavenly Father, We come before You with hearts overflowing with expectation.
We prepare to share in the sacred meal of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
We stand in awe of Your boundless love.
We eagerly await the grace poured out through His body and blood.
Fill our souls with hope as we partake in this holy communion.
Renew our spirits with Your divine presence.
Strengthen our faith in Your unchanging promises.
Unite us as one body, bound by Christ’s love.
We trust in Your eternal plan for redemption.
We yearn for the glory of Your coming kingdom.
Thank You for the gift of Your Son, our Savior.
Thank You for His sacrifice that reconciles us to You.
With joyful hearts, we receive this sacred meal.
We anticipate Your transforming power in our lives.
Let us pray together: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
Breaking of Bread
According to the holy institution, example, and command of our Lord Jesus, and as a memorial of our Lord, we do the following:
on the night when he was betrayed, He took the bread
(Minister takes the bread.)
and when he had given thanks he broke it and said,
(Minister breaks the bread.)
“This is my body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way he took the cup saying,
(Minister raises the cup.)
“This cup is the new covenant sealed by my blood. Whenever you drink it, do it in memory of me.”
Communion
Take this is the body of Christ which is broken for you. Eat and tast to remembering him.
(Action)
This cup is the new covenant sealed by Christ’s blood, which was shed so that the sins of many might be forgiven. Drink from it, all of you.
