INTRO
You’re here tonight because you have great admiration for Jesus and His Church!
Not everyone is like that…some are a fan of Jesus more than they are followers of Jesus.
Some like the idea of Jesus, but they are not all in for Him.
We live in a culture where many are content with people giving a nod to God and hope they get more serious about Him later in life.
Reality: Jesus wants you to live all of life all for Him…Always!
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Living all of life, all for Jesus…Always is the goal of every spiritually mature Disciple of Jesus!
1) You Are a Thermostat for Jesus.
1) You Are a Thermostat for Jesus.
“…a TEACHER of the Gentiles in faith and truth.”
What is a Thermostat?
What you do with Jesus is how others around you will see him.
Most of your friends and family won’t take Jesus serious if you don’t take Jesus serious.
Some of your friends and family will take Jesus serious when you start taking Jesus seriously.
If we are a thermostat for Jesus, how do we set the temp?
2) You Set the Temp By Your Faith.
2) You Set the Temp By Your Faith.
“…a teacher of the Gentiles in FAITH and truth.”
What is Faith?
Forsaking All I Trust Him.
Faith is belief in Jesus put into action. It’s not just Lip service.
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
Some of you are putting your faith in all the wrong the places.
You’re putting faith and acceptance in unhealthy relationships.
You’re putting faith and acceptance in athletic achievement or academic achievement.
You’re putting faith and acceptance in unhealthy friendships.
You’re putting faith and acceptance in attention on social media.
When your faith is in the wrong place, the Temp for Jesus runs cold in your life because you’re trying to find your identity in all the wrong places instead of letting faith in Him define who you are!
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Forsaking All I Trust Him
Set the temp for Jesus by letting go of the ways of the culture and letting Jesus transform your heart by renewing your mind with the truth!
3) You Adjust the Temp By Living Out Truth.
3) You Adjust the Temp By Living Out Truth.
“…a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and TRUTH.”
Josiah (2 Kings 22-23)
Became King at 8 years old and reigned for 31 years.
During His reign the temple of God was broken down and filled with all kinds of garbage and false idols.
Josiah has the temple cleaned up and repaired. During the repair they find God’s Law.
Hearing the truth about God and His purpose for His people, Josiah is broken because of all of the lies he and others have held to.
He has the truth brought to the people and starts putting in place ways for the people to turn to God and away from the lies.
How many of you hate being lied to?
Wrong…You hate finding out you’ve been lied to. You guys are being lied to everyday by the culture and you embrace it and even crave it.
You’re being fed the lie that truth is whatever you want it to be and when you hear the real truth that there is only the truth as defined by God you hate the truth because you love the lie.
If you want to adjust the temp by living out truth you have to start hating the lie and embracing truth.
You can’t live out what you don’t embrace.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you want to be the thermostat who sets the temp by your faith and adjusts the temp by living out truth, you got to clean out the lies from your temple and start discovering God’s Word so you know what to live out!
Don’t just trust what others say the Bible says, find it out for yourself and let it define who you are!
Parable of the 4 soils.
Don’t be hard hearted.
Don’t be shallow.
Don’t let things of this world choke it out.
Let your life be deeply rooted in God’s Word so that it produces a life that shows off Jesus to others.
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.
33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes;
and I will keep it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
and observe it with my whole heart.
35 Lead me in the path of your commandments,
for I delight in it.
36 Incline my heart to your testimonies,
and not to selfish gain!
37 Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
and give me life in your ways.
JESUS ALWAYS MEANS YOU ARE A THERMOSTAT FOR JESUS WHO SETS THE TEMP BY YOUR FAITH AND ADJUSTS THE TEMP BY LIVING OUT TRUTH!
