William Tyndale
Tyndale was born around 1494 and translated the New Testament from Greek in 1526.
He coined phrases like "Let there be light," "Am I my brother's keeper?" and "The salt of the earth."
He was executed in 1536 for his work. His last words: "Lord, open the King of England's eyes."
Reflect: "All Scripture is inspired by God..." (2 Timothy 3:16-17 CSB).
Post-Tyndale Developments
The Coverdale Bible (1535) was the first complete printed English Bible.
The Geneva Bible (1560) included study notes.
The King James Version was published in 1611 and drew heavily from Tyndale.
Reflect: "So my word... will not return to me empty..." (Isaiah 55:11 CSB).

Jailed
John Purvey was a key associate of John Wycliffe.
He was imprisoned in 1390 for preaching heresy.
Purvey recanted in 1401 to avoid execution.
He later resumed preaching and was imprisoned again in 1421
Purvey's imprisonment in  stemmed from accusations of heresy leveled against him following the investigation of his teachings by Archbishop Arundel.
Purvey's teachings challenged fundamental aspects of the Church's authority, including the validity of wrongful excommunication and the efficacy of papal law.
Following his recantation, Purvey was given a vicarage, but, like many Wycliffe followers who recanted under duress, he felt a deep sense of betrayal.
He eventually resigned from his position and spent the next 18 years preaching wherever he could. He was imprisoned again in  for resuming his preaching, though details of his death are uncertain, he was alive in 1427.
