Jesus - YAHWEH Saves

The most precious name is Jesus.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

We know the Bill Gaither song, JESUS JESUS JESUS There’s just something about that name Master Savior JESUS like the fragrance after the rain, JESUS JESUS JESUS let all heaven and earth proclaim Kings and kingdoms will all pass away but theres something about that name

There is power in the name of Jesus just listen to the words of John 1.12 and I will tell you right now that the name Jesus is precious it means Yahweh saves or Jehovah saves. Jesus came with salvation mercy and grace. He came to purchase our salvation on Calvary with His precious blood. He wasn’t a moral prophet, he wasn’t a good teacher. He is the was and forever will be the Son of God. All the names of God that we have looked at can all be wrapped up into the great name of Jesus I would be be a terrible preacher to do a series on the great names of God and leave out the greatest name ever JESUS!!!!

Let me introduce you to Jesus!

Luke 1:31–32 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

We are protestants so therefore we are careful how we talk about Mary. I get it, she is not equal with God. We don’t pray to Mary, BUT Mary is a very important person. She was chosen by God to bring the Christ child into the world. Give the great job of the virgin birth and She was the first to hear those words from heaven the name that would change the world. JESUS, you know that song Mary did you know. Good song, but when she first heard that NAME that Great NAME the name that reaches into the heart of you and me and lets us have convidence in our relationship with the Almighty. She was the first to hear JESUS the name that changed you and me.

Jesus is God who took on flesh.

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

Joseph was told that Mary would have a child and that he wouldn’t be the Father but that is ok. I am sorry but that isn’t ok. BUT this was different. Jesus was concieved by the Holy Spirit. Don’t think for a second that this was something perverted this was a miracle. It had to be that way so Jesus could be fully human 100% and fully God 100% this was miraculous. The math doesn’t add up, but it is the greatest miracle ever.

Jesus is the God-man.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

The fancy name for this is hypostatic union, but it is wonderful. The way I like to think of it, Jesus is the safe way to see God. He is God Almighty in Skin. He is the creator who came down to His creation.

People, born of man, have a sin nature.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—

Sin travels from the man. Therefore the next time you sin and you want to blame someone for your sin nature. Blame your father. They gave you that sin nature it is a tainted seed. But don’t just blame them besides the sin nature you are personally responsible for your actions. But the miracle was that Jesus was sinless.

Jesus was without sin.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Jesus had no sin nature He faced sin and never gave in to it. He never did anything wrong.

Jesus is Holy, Perfect.

1 Peter 2:22 Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth

Jesus lack of sin allowed Him to carry your sin to the cross.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

I can’t pay for your sins. You can’t pay for mine. Someone said to me once. I go to church and they only talk about sin and stuff and Jesus dying on the cross. I need to hear about other things like that are happening in the world. I am telling you that I have read this book. For all of eternity the important thing is that you know Jesus and your sins are forgiven. Forever we are calling out to that name Jesus Jesus Jesus. The fact that he bore our sins is the greatest thing that has ever happened.

Jesus is YAHWEH SAVES!

Matthew 1:21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

The name says it all. GOD SAVES! It is a common name at the time Jesus lived Josephus listed 20 different Jesus. It was a dirivative of the Hebrew name Joshua which also means YAHWEH saves. the truth is that the J is really probably not a sound that would have been used by Hebrews so the name was probably Yeshua and we just call Him Jesus. The name Jesus was widely used until a hundred years after the death of Jesus because at that time the Jews hated the name and the Christians rightly reveered it and it became sacred and therefore wasn’t used until every once in awhile today you will run into a He sus spelled Jesus. But Jesus is a special name. But hear is something crazy

Most people didn’t call, Jesus, Jesus!

Luke 23:42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

The verse above comes from the thief on the cross. The thief won’t even call Jesus by name but calls him lord adonai master. Not even his closest firends call him by name in conversation, not Peter, not Mary, Not John or even his enemies. Interesting though The name Jesus is used about 1,000 times depending on translation rarely is it someone talking to Jesus. That to me is crazy. The refer to him as Lord, rabbi, teacher, son of david. We throw the name Jesus out willy nilly but that isn’t the way it is used in the Bible.

People who need saving call out to Jesus.

Luke 18:38 And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me”

The Blind man cries out JESUS but he follows that up with Son of David. Not just Jesus. You don’t hear me running around hear saying. Cody Son of Sean

Jesus have mercy on me.

Luke 17:13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

Jesus came to save. That includes His grace and mercy. Grace is God in His bountiful riches showers us with blessings that further His kingdom. In other words God’s grace is making you a citizen of heaven, peace of God that passes understandings. Groceries when you have none, miraculous healing, all the wonderful things that we have in this life. What it isn’t is giving us everything we want to spoil us. It isn’t God saying Corvette. Sure Pop it’s there. Does that mean that Christians aren’t blessed with corvette’s no. It is just me conveying the truth to you that grace is not the properity gospel. Grace is often the strength to endure trials temptations and persecutions.

Mercy God witholding the wrath we have earned. It is Jesus taking His blood behind the veil of heaven and presenting it to the father paying for our sins. Forgiving those who are his children from their sins. It is God saving us from the penalties of sin like leprosy and blindness. It was symbolically shown when the viel of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom so that we could be saved.

My point is, even when He walked the earth people used Jesus name with caution. His position requires that His name commands respect. Don’t use Jesus name lightly but use it often with respect and dignity especially in your time of need.

The resurrection elevated the name Jesus.

Acts 19:13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.”

People all over realize that there is power in the name of Jesus. It is an abomination to treat the name Mohammed with the respect that the name Jesus is due. Muslims will kill over missuse of the name in their religion it is to be resepected. We as Christians swing the other direction we use our Saviors name as a curseword. I look at it this way we need to use Jesus name but never in vane. When someone does it hurts my heart, I may say something, but I let God deal with the disresepect I don’t take things into my hands. God’s hands are big enough. All that being said Use Jesus powerful reverant name often and respectfully. There is power in that name. I hope that you will all talk to me about that name this week it is a wonderful name.

The name Jesus has authority.

Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

Remember how I told you that people rarely call Jesus Jesus. and they never do alone it is always Jesus of Nazareth of Jesus son of David. The only person who has the right in scripture to identify Jesus as just Jesus is Jesus and you see their are two times in the Bible that happens and both times it is used to carry authority it is here in REvelation and once in the book of Acts when Jesus has a conversation with Saul who would be the apostle Paul.

Cry out to Jesus’ name in prayer.

John 14:13–14 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

I often talk about the greater things that we in the church enjoy because of our special relationship with Jesus. The gift of the Holy Spirit the confidence of heaven the love of God, the power of prayer and with it goes the power of the name of Jesus. I must admit. We finish our prayers in Jesus name Amen. I am a pastor and often pray with people on the phone and sometimes saying in Jesus name can become routine. I have to tell you I left a message on someones answering machine I don’t remember what it was, but lets just pretend I was calling to check on the status of my car at the shop and got the machine. Hello my name is Scott Willson and I am checking on my Toyota would you give me a call back at your convience IN JESUS NAME I PRAY AMEN! Boy some guy got a laugh, I always think that is going to end up on America’s funniest home video.

Jesus’ name is above all.

Philippians 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

There are some name that you just know who you are talking about. If I say Shaq an image came into your head of a 7 foot giant of a man. If I say Hitler Lincoln Putin or Trump an image comes into your head of great or terrible men. Well the name that is above them all the best name ever the name that is above all else is Jesus. The name that shapes kingdoms and has eternity in its hands that changes lives for all of eternity is Jesus. People will forget about all the other names but people will still be wearing Tshirts with Jesus on it. People have tried to silence the name but never will.

The name of Jesus is to be worshipped by all.

Philippians 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

We should bow the knee today. I ask you the question when was the last time that you bowed the knee to Jesus. I will tell you what it has become rather rare occurance to see someone bowing their knee to the name of Jesus in Port Crane recently. I remember when on Wednesday nights I would see 4 or 5 people every week bowing their knee in prayer. Don’t worry though one day every knee will bow, but we should be doing it today.

Jesus’ name brings salvation and eternal life.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

I tell you I could bring up verse after verse after verse many that you have heard before but the theme of the New Testament is that Jesus saves you from sins. He purchased redemption on Calvary and it is offered to any who believe.

Believe on the name of Jesus.

John 4:42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

You want to know what salvation looks like. Look at the book of John for examples. The Samaritans, Peter, Martha, the Blind man, John at the empty tomb, and Thomas. That is what it looks like. I don’t know what happened to the Samaritans in John 4 but I believe that they were some of the first to be saved in the name of Jesus Christ. and I would encourage you to have their kind of faith. Not faith in that something good will happen to you but faith in Jesus the Savior of the world and the Savior of your sins. WE OURSELVES HAVE HEARD HIM AND WE KNOW That this is indeed the Christ the Savior of the world.

Jesus’ name is the only way to salvation.

Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

I have spoken a lot today about the Muslim prophet Mohammed. They reveer that name, but that name leads no where. There is power in believing in Jesus . Again I point to the gospel of John to know what that looks like.

What does salvation look like?

John 6:68–69 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

What I want is to hear someone utter those words today. LORD JESUS you have the words of eternal life and I have come to believe and know that You are the Christ the Savior of the world. The one who would die on the cross to save me from my sins.

Anyone can come to Jesus and be saved.

Romans 10:9–13 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

WHOEVER means whoever. IF you are listening to this and you are pretending. and I don’t know if you are pretending, but I believe that there is a pretender here. You have been in church for years, but you have never surrendered your heart to Jesus. Call on the name of Jesus. Maybe their is a terrible sinner. and you realize that you need a Savior. You have been running from him a long time. It doesn’t matter. WHOEVER can be saved. And there are a lot of people here who will embrace you. Wrap our arms around you and Welcome you to the kingdom. Jesus is the power of salvation.

Lord, I believe!

John 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”

John 9:38 Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.

The blind man’s faith was simple, Peter had this eloquent speech, the blind man, just LORD I believe and he worshipped Him. Just come to Jesus!

God is more than able to save you. Believe in that great name of Jesus. Maybe you are saved. But it has been a long time since you bowed the knee. I know that I am married, I wear a ring I spend time with my wife every day . I love her but sometimes I make it abundantly clear. You are my wfie I am so glad I married you it was the best decision outside of Jesus and I would marry you all over again I love you more than yesterday and less than I will tomorrow, Maybe today you need to come bow the knee and say Lord I still believe. Or maybe you need to confess Christ for the first time.

The power of the name is clear. JESUS SAVES!

John 20:31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

This has to be in my top ten verses in the Bible. If you read the gospel of John the message is simple. Believe in the name of Jesus the Christ the one who died on the cross for our sins. I tell you what when I get to heaven will I have the power to utter His name like the lepers, LORD JESUS HAVE MERCY ON ME!

JESUS JESUS JESUS Or will I just say MASTER SAVIOR and that holy word will come with time JESUS. That is the most precious name ever, the jews wouldn’t say YAHWEH it was the unspoken name of God. Jesus should be just as precious. How many of you wear a Jesus shirt. GOOD go ahead but understand what you are wearing.

The name of Jesus is eternal life.

John 11:25–27 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Jesus is the gateway to heaven. He is the way the truth and the life NO man goes to the Father except through Him. How about you.

Listen to the Samaritans - We believe that you are the Christ the Savior of the World YAHWEH SAVES

Listen to Peter - You have the words of eternal life and you are the Christ the son of the Living God

Listen to the blind man - Lord I believe Worhsip Him

Listen to Martha. Lord I believe that you are the Christ the Son of God who is come into the world
