Matthe 5:1-12
Matthe 5:1-12
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.
2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
God promises satisfaction to those who truly seek him.
I. The Hungry
I. The Hungry
To Hunger and Thirst after righteousness indicates a desire to be right with God and see righteousness flourish in the kingdom
To hunger and thirst indicates that we are more desiring of Christlikeness and than anything else.
Seeking righteousness is so important that if you focus on it God promised to take care of everything else.
The righteous find safety in God. Proverbs 18:10
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
Righteous pursuit is a place of stability and peace among the inconsistencies of life
Righteousness will end in an ultimate reeward
8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
II. The Merciful
II. The Merciful
When we seek to be more like God, mercy is a natural progression.
Mercy is a characteristic of God.
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
Ephesians 2:4–5 “4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),” God has a mercy that cannot be exhausted.
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
Because we have received mercy we are to show mercy.
Being merciless causes us to be quick to judge an action without context. It divorces empathy and compassion from justice and leaves no room for grace or restoration.
1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
Mercy comes from people who realize that they are not superior to other people.
Sometimes a self-righteous attitude can cause us to categorize us and them. Mercy breaks down that self-righteous spirit that judges others as if we have no faults ourselves.
Jesus believes mercy is so important, he only promises it’s reciprocity to the merciful.
James 2:12–13 “12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”
“Mercy does not condone, It corrects with love and respect.” [John 8:1-11]
Jesus is presented with a woman who is GUILTY. She Deserves Stoning. He gives her mercy and instruction.
12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,
13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

III. The Pure in Heart
III. The Pure in Heart
Purity indicates a lack of contaminates. The pure in heart are those whose hearts aren’t tainted with the world. Those are hearts with a deep desire for closer with the creator. Their motives are pure. They will see Good because they seek God.
Jeremiah 29:12–14 “12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.”
