In a world full of distractions and debates, how do we stay centered on what matters most? This week we’re diving into 1 Timothy to see Paul’s charge to keep the gospel at the heart of the church. We’ll discover why sound teaching matters, how easily we can be led away, and why prayer must be our first priority. When we put God at the center and make prayer our main thing, our lives—and our church—point people to Jesus.

Opening Framework:

Join A Group - Summer Mixtape Intro - 1 Timothy
Scripture: Acts 20:28-31
Message Title: Getting It Right Starts With Prayer
Prayer

Intro: 1 Timothy but we started in Acts

1 Timothy is different other letters…
The most documented church in the New Testament Acts 19 - It starts Acts 20 - It’s going and has a warning Ephesians - It’s an encouraging church 1 & 2 Timothy - Trouble is arising but they know what they need to do to get back on track

We: We can all relate to this church a little bit…

I think we can all relate to this church a little bit. It’s one thing to start something strong but staying consistent, grounded, and focused on the main thing can be hard. Our marriages, serving at the church, raising our kids, etc)
Lucas on his car Drifting in the wrong direction doesn’t happen quickly… it’s subtle

God: So we’re going to just go through this a little…

Acts 19 - The church starts with a Riot
Acts 20:29 - Paul gives the church a warning for the future
Ephesians - Stay grounded, be encouraged, and keep maturing
1 Timothy - Those problems Paul talked about are starting to arise
1 Timothy 1:3-4 - As I urged you - False teaching started to appear
The big issues at the time 1. Making secondary issues primary 2. Syncretism - Adopting myths of the culture and sticking it onto Jesus.
In our time we have - Prosperity Gospel - Poverty Gospel - Political Gospel - Progressive Gospel
So we have lies that need to be corrected in our time
1 Timothy 1:5 - The goal of correcting…
1 Timothy 2:1 - Here’s how it’s going to be fixed… Prayer… FOR EVERYONE, not just people you like.
1 Timothy 2:8 - The men should pray… Kids - 3% Women - 17% Men - 93%
If you want to walk right with God and with doctrine, you pray more.
Learning gives you knowledge. Prayer gives you alignment.

You: This is a letter to a church but… Where are YOU drifting?

Your parenting, your marriage, your trust in God, your prayer life, your ability to obey God
Are you more likely to debate about your faith than to actually pray? Be honest is prayer your first instinct or your last resort?
I’ll say it again… “If you want to walk right with God and with doctrine, you pray more.”
John 15:7-8 - Because God REALLY answers your prayers

We: Church IMAGINE IF WE WERE KNOWN FOR PRAYER

If you noticed one thing from these Summer Mixtape Sermons is that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF PAUL’S LETTERS POINTS BACK TO JESUS…. And as a Church WE NEED TO DO THE SAME.
And it starts with prayer.

Alter Call:

If you’ve drifted… If your prayer life needs a spark…
