TEXT: 1 John 4:7-21
1 John 4:7–21 KJV 1900
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

S-3> The love of God drew us unto Himself.
When we share the love of God, others are drawn closer to Him also.
How Much Love?
How Much?
(# 1)
S-4> This is the first in the series, “How Much?”
S-4> This message is entitled, “How Much Love?”
S-5> How much love does it take to go to heaven?
S-6> Do we need to have a certain amount of love to live for God?
Is there a quota of love that we need to acquire to go to heaven?
As we look at the power of love, we will also look at how much love we need to honor the Lord.
S-7-CF> Love is the message; forgiveness is the method.
S-8> 1) Love Everyone The Same.
S-9> 1 John 4:7
1 John 4:7 KJV 1900
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
Love is the one thing that separates the Kingdom of God from the kingdom of darkness.
S-10> God’s love, agape, can save a soul and change a heart.
God’s love, agape, can heal broken relationships and restore fellowship.
God’s love, agape, can be shared and shared and shared and given away and you will never run out of it.
Draw attention to the two glasses of water and the pitcher.
The pitcher represents the love of God.
The glasses represent people.
S-11> John 13:35
John 13:35 KJV 1900
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
As children of God it is important that we practice love everyday toward everyone we meet.
S-12> We must allow God’s love to flow through us and from us in our words, our actions, and our thoughts.
Every time we say or do something that is unlovely, the kingdom of darkness rejoices.
S-8> 1) Love Everyone The Same.
S-13> 2) Love Sent Jesus.
S-14> 1 John 4:10
1 John 4:10 KJV 1900
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
God loves us so much that He sent His son to take our place at Calvary and take our punishment for sin.
Do we love God enough to talk with Him daily in prayer? Do we love God enough to read His Word daily and seek His Will for our life?
To say it another way. God loves me so much that He sent His Son to die for me, but I don’t love Him enough to pray and read His Word every day.
S-15> When the love of God enters our heart, we begin to live a life of love and sacrifice.
S-16> Mark 12:33
Mark 12:33 KJV 1900
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
S-17> Ephesians 5:1-2
Ephesians 5:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
S-18-CF> Love is the message; forgiveness is the method.
God forgives us when we ask Him too and we must forgive others also.
S-19> Acts 2:21
Acts 2:21 KJV 1900
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
S-20> Every time you forgive someone, love flows.
Pour some water (love) from one glass to another, then replenish the first glass from the source container.
S-8> 1) Love Everyone The Same.
S-13> 2) Love Sent Jesus.
S-21> 3) Love Is Perfected In Us When We Love.
S-22> 1 John 4:12
1 John 4:12 KJV 1900
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
S-23> If you want to live a life of perfect love, you must practice unconditional love.
S-24> As we love others, God’s love is having its way in our life and we are growing in love.
At the same time, God’s love is being made perfect (being fulfilled and completed) in us.
S-25> Hebrews 5:9
Hebrews 5:9 KJV 1900
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
S-26> Jesus Christ showed His obedience to the Father by loving, forgiving, and obeying.
We must do the same.
S-27> Matthew 25:20-21
Matthew 25:20–21 KJV 1900
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
God has given us gifts and talents to sow into the lives of others, so they will experience His love.
S-28> When we use our gifts and talents for God’s glory, He will give us what we need to glorify Him more.
Pour some water (love) from one glass to another, then replenish the first glass from the source container.
S-8> 1) Love Everyone The Same.
S-13> 2) Love Sent Jesus.
S-21> 3) Love Is Perfected In Us When We Love.
S-29> 4) Love That Is Perfect Has No Fear.
S-30> 1 John 4:18
1 John 4:18 KJV 1900
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
How many times a day does doubt, or fear try to distract us, deceive us, or destroy us?
S-31> Love, God’s love, gives you the power to overcome fear. Faith gives you the strength to endure.
How do we receive more of God’s love into our heart, we spend time in His love letter to us.
As we read the Bible, God loves on us and at the same time our faith grows.
S-32> Romans 10:17
Romans 10:17 KJV 1900
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
S-33> Psalm 37:37
Psalm 37:37 KJV 1900
37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: For the end of that man is peace.
S-34> James 3:2
James 3:2 KJV 1900
2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
When we allow God to have our heart and our tongue, then we can walk in love that is being perfected (fulfilled and completed).
S-35> Ephesians 4:13
Ephesians 4:13 KJV 1900
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
S-36> Grow in Christ, obey God’s Word, and continue to walk in love.
S-8> 1) Love Everyone The Same.
S-13> 2) Love Sent Jesus.
S-21> 3) Love Is Perfected In Us When We Love.
S-29> 4) Love That Is Perfect Has No Fear.
S-37> 5) Love Loves, It Does Not Hate.
S-38> 1 John 4:19-20
1 John 4:19–20 KJV 1900
19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
S-39> There is no room in the heart of a Christian for hate, bitterness or unforgiveness.
If we want to go to heaven, we must walk in love toward our fellow man.
S-40> Matthew 6:14-15
Matthew 6:14–15 KJV 1900
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
S-41> Ephesians 4:32
Ephesians 4:32 KJV 1900
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
S-42> The more we know about someone, the more we will need to forgive.
It’s easier to forgive a stranger, because we don’t know everything about them, and usually they haven’t hurt us repeatedly.
Family members and friends, with whom we are close, we often have an opportunity to see more of their mistakes and we will need to forgive them even more.
Remove some water (love) from one glass and do not replenish it.
This is what happens when we hate or refuse to love and forgive, we are left empty until we repent. After repentance, we are restored into fellowship with God. Then, we must love and forgive those who have hurt us.
CONCLUSION:
S-43-CV> Matthew 18:21-22
Matthew 18:21–22 KJV 1900
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
S-44> Do we need to have a certain amount of love to live for God?
Is there a quota of love that we need to acquire to go to heaven?
S-45> With God’s love we shine for Him, without His love we are in the dark, hurting.

S-46> All God gives you.
S-8> 1) Love Everyone The Same.
