Look at a student long enough for it to be funny, then ask, “[Name], why are you here?” Do this a couple more times.
This is a question that if you haven’t spent time thinking about it yet, at some point you will. And it will really determine a lot, or everything, about how you live your life. Are you here for a good time? Are you here to help everyone? Are you here to be as successful as possible? Or is there something more, better than all these things?
We talked last week about how God put order into creation and that order is good. Part of that order is that He created humanity with a purpose. Of course He did, everything He does has order, intention, purpose. He doesn’t do things on accident, or willy-nilly as you might say!
God created man to display his glory, care for the Earth, and fill the Earth with families.

We are his image bearers. Little reflections of Him. Made to show his glory.
2:4 & 1:26-27
Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
This goes against what the world is telling us. The world tells us to show our own glory. Get on TikTok, Instagram, whatever new thing is out now, and show everyone how great you are…
We were made to display much more glory than that!
We pay more than I would like to acknowledge for TV and different streaming services every month. We could pay a little bit less, but I’m actually the one that insisted we pay more a few years ago. We have this TV with 4K and Dolby Vision and whatever else it does. We’re going to pay extra to watch Netflix in 4K. Why would we settle for watching it in regular HD when the tv is capable of ultra HD? That’s silly!
Going through life trying to show everyone your own glory when you could be showing something so much better by reflecting God’s glory is just goofy!
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
He created us to display his glory. Made us in his image and then He put Adam & Eve in the garden and said to work it and keep it, subdue the Earth and have dominion.

He made us to take care of the Earth, or to steward it.

For our own good, we are to steward the Earth well, so that we get what we need from it.
Anybody ever have a gold fish? They aren’t great pets. They’re a little gross. You put them in that bowl and…
They don’t take care of the home you give them. Don’t be like a gold fish. Take care of the beautiful home God has given us.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,
So what does that mean? Do we have to be environmentalists? Start yelling at politicians like Greta Thunberg?
I don’t think so, but we need to be responsible…
We need to understand that work is good…
Scripture tells us to work, here is Genesis… and Paul…
And He tells them one other thing to do on the Earth

Multiply and fill the Earth. God marries Adam and Eve and tells them to build a family.

God wants his creation to prosper and enjoy the Earth He created.
Again, all of this order that He’s given to us is a gift! Marriage and Children are a gift!
He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
I’ll tell y’all the greatest blessings that God has given me besides salvation through Jesus are my wife and my children. Somehow they can also be my greatest source of stress and frustration and worry, but man I wouldn’t trade it for anything! I will fight you if you try to take them!
The order of family is an incredible gift from God! That doesn’t mean that you need to rush it, but be excited about it! Look forward to it! Even if you don’t see it now, trust God when He tells us it’s good!
And our families are another way that we can bear God’s image. Our God is one, but He exists in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That community they share is something that humanity can do together in a way the rest of creation can’t and it glorifies God!
Now in a broken and sinful world, this often doesn’t look like what it’s supposed to look like. There are all kinds of ways that sin has messed up what family was supposed to be… But when it’s done with the goal of honoring God, it’s so good! It displays his glory!
But the most important way that we can display his glory now is by putting our faith in Jesus.
he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
This has been God’s plan, He knew this is the way it would happen from before the beginning! He says it right before these verses, “before the foundation of the world”!
And Scripture tells us that all those who have been adopted through Christ, who have placed their faith in Him, will reign with Christ forever on the new Earth with God’s family!
