I want to ask you guys the question?
What is the purpose of the Youth Centre?
Here is the mission statement of of why TPYC exitsts..
Turning Point Youth Centre is a non-profit youth centre committed to promoting and providing a safe meeting place for our community's youth to go- a place where they will be able to develop life skills, healthy connections with peers, have access to helpful resources, where they will be encouraged to grow into the person God intends them to and where they will be shown the love of Christ.
While I love having fun and being a safe place for you all, I believe that the most important part of the Youth Centre isn’t about just having fun or even being a safe place.
The most important part is that here you will be encouraged to grow into the person God intends you to be and that you will experience the love of Christ in real and life-changing ways.
And so there have been testimonies, and there have been video series. But over the summer, i have been tyring to figure out, how we can make that last part of our mission statement really come alive.
And so..
“At the Youth Centre, we’re starting something new called Anchored Life.
Theme: Finding hope that anchors through the Bible.
Im sure you guys know.. But Life is tough. im sure lots of you are going through lots of tough situations, with you family, school. Things don’t always go as planned.
Sometimes it feels like the waves of school, friends, family, or even our own doubts are crashing against us.
But the Bible tells us in Hebrews 6:19
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and reliable and one which enters within the veil,
That anchor is Jesus. He’s the one who holds us steady no matter what.
And so what exactly are we going to do?
What Anchored Life Offers
What Anchored Life Offers
Answer big questions about faith & life.
Get tools to stand strong when life gets hard.
Discover real hope in Jesus.
And so What We’ll Be Doing Together
is ..
Learning how to read the Bible so it makes sense.
Exploring the tough questions you’ve always had. I want you guys to know that this time will be a time where we can be real, and ask questions.
Practicing prayer and learning to talk with God.
Having real-life discussions about what matters most.
Finding answers in God’s Word that give us hope.
Why “Anchored Life”?
Why “Anchored Life”?
Because when storms come, we don’t want to drift. We want to be anchored. And Jesus is the anchor who keeps us steady always.
We want to be annchored in the word, and anchroed in Christ.
And so today is the first session,
You are all going to get one of these books and they are yours. You can write in them the discussion questions, because you will definetly see them again.. possibly in marketplace..
But also you can use these books when we are doing markeplace, it will almost be like its open book.
But if you do not write in them then you will not have the answer.
So you can turn the books to the first session.
What Is the Gospel?
What Is the Gospel?
And as you guys are turning there ,
I’ve got a question for you.
Have you ever gotten really good news? Like maybe your team won a game, or school was canceled, or someone surprised you with free food?
(let them answer)
Now what about bad news? Maybe a test you failed, or a friend who let you down, or your phone battery dying at 2%.
(let them answer)
I think it is safe to say Good news feels great Right?. Bad news feels heavy and tough.
The Bible actually tells us the biggest bad news AND the greatest good news.
That’s what the word ‘gospel’ means — it means good news.
And tonight, we’re going to find out what that news is all about.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Here’s the bad news: every one of us has sinned.
Does anyone know what sin means?
Sins literal meaning means missing the mark..
Imagine aiming at a bullseye and missing completely.
But i feel like that doesnt fully encompase what sin actually is
It’s not just “messing up” or “making mistakes.”
It’s deeper than that — it’s living in rebellion against God.
There is a verse in the book of Isaisah that says
All of us, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the wrongdoing of us all To fall on Him.
And so i think the simple yet most biblically faithful answer to what sin is
is Sin is choosing our own way instead of God’s way — anything we think, say, or do that goes against Him.
And because God is holy, sin separates us from Him. God being holy means, that he is pure and set apart.
(Visual: two cliffs labeled Us and God, gap labeled SIN).
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.
God didn’t leave us stuck. He sent His Son, Jesus, to take our place. Jesus lived a perfect life..
He never sinned once. Then He died on the cross to pay the price for our sins.
And three days later, He rose from the dead, proving He’s stronger than sin and death.
(Visual: cross bridging the gap).
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
Here’s what that means in simple words: God rescues us. We don’t rescue ourselves. We don’t earn it by being good enough, going to church enough, or trying really hard. God does it because He loves us.
And it’s a gift. Think about your birthday. When someone gives you a gift, you don’t hand them money for it, right? If you paid for it, it wouldn’t be a gift anymore. You just receive it. That’s how God works — He gives us forgiveness and new life because of Jesus, not because of what we do.
Picture this: imagine someone drowning in a lake. They’re going under, they can’t save themselves, they’re out of strength. What do they need?
In that moment they do not need advice. or swimming lessons. They need someone to jump in and pull them out.
That’s what Jesus does for us. He dives in, pulls us out of sin and death, and carries us safely to the shore.
And here’s the important part: nobody can brag about being rescued. Nobody can say, ‘I was strong enough, I was smart enough, I was good enough.’ The only reason we’re alive is because Jesus came for us. All the credit goes to Him.”
“A lot of people think eternal life is only about what happens after you die … like, if you believe in Jesus, you get to go to heaven someday. And while that’s true.
Here’s the part we often miss: eternal life starts the moment you put your trust in Jesus.
What does that mean?
It means God is with you right now. He doesn’t just promise you a future He changes your present. You’re forgiven .
You’re set free from the power of sin. You’ve got hope, even when life feels hard. But again that is only if you commit your life to Jesus.
Here’s an example that you guys may understand:
imagine you go to school with your phone stuck at 1% battery. It’s stressful, you’re always worried it’s going to die, and you can’t really enjoy anything because you’re just trying to keep it alive.
Then you get back home and , you plug it into a charger and it’s full. You don’t have to live in fear anymore of it dying.
That’s what happens when you trust Jesus more or less..
You go from running on empty to being filled with His life and power.
Here’s the good news for us: eternal life isn’t just about ‘one day.’ It’s about today. It’s walking with Jesus now. It’s knowing you’re never alone. It’s knowing that whatever storms hit, you’ve got an anchor that holds. And nothing can take that away from you.”
“Okay, let’s pull everything together:
Sin separates us from God.
Jesus died and rose to save us.
God’s rescue is a gift — not something we earn.
Eternal life starts the moment you trust Jesus.
That’s the gospel. That’s the good news.
I want you to know that
Believing in Jesus changes everything.
Your past: You’re forgiven — all your sins are washed away (1 John 1:9).
Your present: You’re not alone anymore — God is with you every step (Matthew 28:20).
Your future: You have hope that nothing, not even death, can take away (John 11:25–26).
It’s like going from being in the dark to walking in the light. Life doesn’t suddenly get easy, but you’re no longer facing it by yourself. Believing gives you freedom from guilt, strength to face struggles, and real hope that lasts forever.
“Believing in Jesus doesn’t just mean knowing He’s real. The Bible says even the demons believe in God — and they shudder (James 2:19).
Meaning that the Demons know He exists, but they don’t trust Him or follow Him.
So the kind of belief the Bible talks about isn’t just head knowledge — it’s heart trust.
Faith means you don’t just believe Jesus is Lord — you rely on Him as your Lord.
It’s not just saying, ‘Yeah, Jesus is real.’ It’s saying, ‘I’m giving Him my life.’
I need a volunteer? Anyone?
“Do you believe this chair can hold____ ?”
Most will nod or say “yes.”
“Okay, but me saying I believe the chair is strong doesn’t actually prove anything.
I could stand here all day saying, ‘I believe the chair will hold me.’ But as long as I’m standing, it doesn’t change anything.”
Have ___ sit on the chair..
“This is the difference between just believing facts about Jesus and actually having faith in Jesus. Real faith means putting your full weight on Him — trusting Him with your life.”
That’s the difference believing makes. It’s not just facts in your head, it’s trust in your heart that changes your life.”
Closing Recap
Closing Recap
“Alright, before we wrap up tonight, let’s take one last look at what we’ve learned.
Sin separates us from God. We all chose our own way instead of God’s way, and that broke our relationship with Him.
Jesus died and rose to save us. He took our place on the cross, paid for our sin, and came back to life to give us new life.
God’s rescue is a gift, received by faith. You can’t earn it. You don’t deserve it. You can only receive it by trusting Jesus.
Eternal life begins now. Following Jesus isn’t just about someday in heaven. It’s about today — forgiveness, freedom, and hope right now.
Belief vs. Faith. It’s not just knowing about Jesus in your head. Real faith means trusting Him with your life — like sitting in the chair, putting all your weight on Him.
That’s the gospel. That’s the good news.”
