You are a Child of the Father

Bible Passage: Ro 8:12–17
Summary: In Romans 8:12–17, Paul speaks about the incredible privilege of being adopted into God's family. This passage emphasizes that as believers, we are not merely servants or strangers, but beloved children of God, receiving the Spirit of adoption that testifies to our identity as His heirs.

1. Spirit-Led Sonship

Ro 8:14
Walking in sonship is walking in a relationship with our father. all of us are born with the desire to be loved by God, then parents, and others around us.
All of us want and desire to be valued and accepted.
If we do not set our value and acceptance from the Father then we will get it other place.
Social media, phones, friendships, idols and so on.
If we operate from a spirit of orphanship as orphans then we will hurt others around us, we will look for affirmation from family and friends when we fail to get it from God.
Women go primarily to SM friends magazines. Men go to jobs, possession such as my big truck, idolizing a perfect family. Society trues to make us jealous, social media tried to draw our attention and take our values. It draws us away from Jesus and makes us a slave to it. The orphan is in the flesh and getting identity from the flesh and things of this world. \
That’s why Paul begins the prelude to being sons and daughters with V12-14
V12 Because of the indwelling Spirit, Paul declares that believers are no longer subject to the control of the flesh. They have been transferred from the realm of the flesh to the realm of the Spirit.
V14 "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." To be a follower of Christ means that we're completely dependent on the Holy Spirit for every single moment, day, daily in our lives. Paul is saying the Holy Spirit is taking the place of the elders, the tradition and doctrine of the elders. The Holy Spirit is the one that's going to teach you how to follow me through my written word, where the rabbis were interpreting my Law and saying, "Oh, guys, this is what it means. You need to do this, this, and this," conveniently bending all of it towards themselves and their pride. Paul is making the statement, or I should say, God himself is making the statement through the apostle Paul, "No, no, no, no, put aside the tradition and doctrine of men. My Holy Spirit is going to teach you in every generation how to keep my Law my Ways.

2. Freedom in Adoption

Ro 8:15 No spirit of fear… fear?
But can we love God?
The journey of sonship is one of walking in friendship with God. the opportunity to walk hand and hand with the Lord is possible again as Adam did because of what Jesus has done. some of us are very goal minded, but it goes beyond goal to goal but rather to walk around the Lord’s ways with His affirmation. Jesus’s ministry was to reveal the Father (bible verse, how can you show use the father John 14:9).
But what is this love of a father?
Some people did not have a relationship with their parents and a as a result they struggle and seem to always get in trouble.
You may not be able to understand God’s love or His role as your father and as a result you will operate out of an orphan spirit.

3. Affirmed by the Spirit

Ro 8:16
Be affirmed by the Holy Spirit, don’t try to earn your way in. Paul Washer Story?
Lord Lord did we not do many great things in your names they came to God performance and orientated they came thinking what they did on earth earned the brownie points. They called him Lord and not Father, they were orphans who did not really have a true relationship with God. It was truly to our advantage that Christ left and sent us the Helper. For all who are led by the spirit are sons of God. for we not have a spirit of bondage but one of sonship through which we cry abba father. the spirit bears witness with our own spirit that we are indeed sons of God.

4. Heirs of Glory

Ro 8:17
Consider emphasizing how as children, we are also heirs, sharing in Christ's suffering and glory. This points to the hope and future we have as heirs of promise, encouraging teens to persist through difficulties knowing there is glory ahead. Suggest motivating them to live out this inheritance, caring for others and reflecting the love they have been given.
So here we go. Verse 16: "16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with them, that we may also be glorified together."
This is really important, my friends, because this had never been heard of before, that Jews and Gentiles could ever be heirs. Up until this point in Judaism, they were servants of God. Well, a servant of God cannot have ownership with God. And Paul brings up this brand-new theology, all right, and introduces this into Judaism, that you can be an heir. The only people that had the right to be heirs with God were the Levites. Now, listen carefully, because this is pretty cool, in my opinion, is that the Levites were the only ones that did not have land. They did not have promises of land. God said, "I am their inheritance. They are with me." You are God’s special possession His sons and daughters. Your Promise is on the Glory to Come! NOT here on earth.
So outside of the Levites, nobody had access to be called a son of God. That's why, when Yeshua says, "I am the Son of God," they ripped their clothes. "What do you think? Nobody can be. You're not saying that you're the Messiah." They knew the Messiah was the Son of God, but they could not be sons themselves. And Paul is making this incredible, mind-blowing, mic-dropping moment of a doctrine and saying, "Look, we are heirs. We are sons of the living God, because we died in Christ, we become as he was. The power of Christ lives in us, which means we are inheritors. Our inheritance is him, and we're joint heirs with Christ." That is a very big deal, my friends, because that means that if we are joint heirs with Christ, then we have access to all the same promises that Christ did in the resurrection, which, of course, flew in the face of Jewish Sadducees, who did not even believe in a resurrection. So now you can see why they wanted to kill him.
We are Heirs of Glory, don’t strive for futility here on earth.
