John 6:1–14 — Jesus feeds the five thousand with five loaves and two fish.
Introduction
Introduction
The miracles of Jesus were not random displays of power. They revealed His identity as the Son of God, demonstrated His authority over creation, life, and death, and expressed His deep compassion for people. Each miracle pointed beyond itself to the greater reality of God’s Kingdom breaking into the world.
Historical Background
Historical Background
Miracles in Jewish Expectation
Many Jews believed the Messiah would perform signs confirming His divine mission (John 7:31).
Miracles were seen as evidence of God’s favor and presence.
Authority and Compassion
Jesus’ miracles confirmed His authority, but they also displayed His heart. He didn’t just still storms and feed multitudes — He touched lepers, lifted the broken, and comforted the grieving.
Purpose of Miracles
To authenticate Jesus’ message and identity (John 20:30–31).
To reveal the Kingdom of God as present and powerful.
To show God’s compassion for human suffering.
