Introduction
We have been talking about missions all month
We talked about
The God of all the nations - Gen 12
Practical Evangelism in Acts
The Great Commission in Matthew 28
The Persecuted Church Matthew 10
Now today we are going to talk about what the true purpose of missions really is
Here’s another—this one about Amy Carmichael (1867–1951), missionary to India.
Amy grew up in Ireland and felt called by God to serve overseas. She first tried missions in Japan but eventually settled in India, where she served for 55 years without ever taking a furlough home.
At first, Amy went to India to do traditional missionary work—preaching, teaching, and evangelism. But soon she encountered something that would shape the rest of her ministry: the plight of young girls who were being dedicated to Hindu temples and forced into lives of exploitation.
Amy began rescuing these children, often at great personal risk, and founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, a home where they could be safe, loved, and discipled in Christ. Over her lifetime, she rescued and raised hundreds of children.
Here’s how her life showed that missions is worship:
Love as an offering – Amy said, “You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.” Her acts of sacrificial love were her worship to God.
A life laid down – She gave up marriage, comfort, and health (she spent her last 20 years bedridden after an injury) but continued writing and encouraging others to serve God.
Pointing others to God’s beauty – Her ministry wasn’t just about rescuing children, but about leading them to know and worship the One who is truly worthy.
Amy Carmichael once wrote a simple prayer that shows her heart:
“Give me the love that leads the way,
the faith that nothing can dismay,
the hope no disappointments tire,
the passion that will burn like fire.
Let me not sink to be a clod:
Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.”
Her life shows that missions is an act of worship—our love for God spilling over into love for people, even at great cost.
9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

This is something that we already touched on some at the beginning of this series
God’s character is shown in this that he does not have favoritism and he does not want to leave anyone behind. He wants all of his children to be with him
God doesn’t owe it to any of us. He owe us nothing but he continues to go after us in our everyday lives. He sends people from all over the place for us and He sent his Son to die for us

That Salvation Can Be Obtained
They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
Part of the purpose of missions is for others to obtain salvation and to become glorified for God
The purpose would be that others can see the goodness of God and be a washed in the blood of Jesus.
That God Will Be Praised
That God Will Be Praised
10 And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”
We see here that the many people are praising the Lord in this exaltation
This is the true purpose of missions that the Lord would be praised by many or eternity
That they would praise him and acknowledge all that He has done.
Are we praising God today in our actions and are we leading others to praise him around us?
Conclusion
That Every Nation Has a Chance
That Salvation Can be Obtained
That God Will Be Praised
