Prayer:

In Jesus name, amen.

Welcome

We are in the fifth week of a sermon series — Life in the Spirit.
To live a life pleasing to God requires the Holy Spirit. It’s non-negotiable. Without the Holy spirit, we can’t love God, live for God or love people. It’s the Holy Spirit that enables us to live a Christ centered life.
Today, I want to speak to people who are frustrated in their walk. Constant ups and downs, discouraged time to time, and feel an inconsistency in their life.
I want to serve you by teaching you the scriptures and providing a solution to these frustrating

Main Passage:

Psalm 23:1–3 NLT
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

Title:

He Leads Me

Introduction:

Context

Bible:

Romans 8:15–17 ESV
(v.15) For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” (v.16) The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (v.17) and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Transitional Sentence:

What does God’s leading look like?

Leading 1: Crying Out (v.15)

Romans 8:15 ESV
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Against the backdrop of what we learned last week, “all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons (children) of God.” Now Paul will define what that leading looks like.
He starts off by saying that, “we did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear.” Paul is referring to our old life enslaved to sin; and the proof of being enslaved and mastered by sin was/is fear. Why fear? Fear of what?
1 John 4:18–19 NLT
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first.
Hebrews 2:14–15 NLT
Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.
Fear of punishment, fear of being on the side of God’s wrath or fear of separation or death is evidence of someone who is enslaved to sin.
As christians, God will never lead us to fear; fear of death or punishment. Yet at times, we feel that fear and think it’s God. Paul would encourage us and say, “don’t fall back.”
God did not give you spirit of slavery to fall back into fear instead:
“you received the spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry abba Father.”
In other words: you and I are God’s children, not slaves to sin or fear.
“Adopted sons enjoyed the same privileges as natural born sons. So, instead of cowering in slave-like fear, Christians can approach in an intimate way calling Him Abba, Father.”
The leading of the Spirit looks like dependence. It looks like intimacy. Drawing close to Him. It looks like crying out Abba Father.

Leading 2: Confirmation (v.16)

Romans 8:16 ESV
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Bear witness is the greek word to confirm, inform, testify or give evidence in support of another.
In a court case, if someone is sitting on the stand they are testifying, confirming or providing evidence of the events that happened.
How does the Holy Spirit confirm with our spirit that we are children of God?
Hebrews 12:24 NLT
You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.
1 John 2:1–2 NLT
My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
Revelation 12:11 NLT
And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.
The spirit will always lead you to Christ — to confirm the blood and sacrifice of Jesus, who made us children if God.

Leading 3: Christ-likeness (v.17)

Romans 8:17 ESV
and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
An heir is someone who inherits all that belongs to the father. Since an adopted son holds the same privileges as a natural-born son, he receives everything the natural-born son would.
In the same way, we inherit all that belongs to the Father because, through the Holy Spirit, we are united with Jesus; co-heirs with Christ.
So what does it mean to be co-heirs with Christ? It means to be like christ in both his suffering and glory.
Suffering and Glory
2 Corinthians 4:17 ESV
For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

So what:

In the midst suffering, God will lead your soul
2 Corinthians 4:16 NLT
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
How and why is it being renewed?
Psalm 23:1–3 NLT
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
