Stop Controlling Yourself
Pinocchio- the marionette who becomes a real boy. The puppet maker, Geppetto, spends the whole movie chasing after him because of his poor decisions.
Our Creator is chasing after us, wanting to fix the huge mess we have gotten ourselves into.
Who is controlling your strings? Boss, wife, friends, self, job, Christ.
Colossians 1:15–18 ESV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

5 Reasons Jesus Should be Your Lord

1. He is God (15)

Colossians 1:15 ESV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
Image of God= the God you can see.
Philippians 2:5–8 ESV
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
John 1:1 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
When we replace our will with Christ's will we become an image of Christ.
2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV
18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Colossians 3:10 ESV
10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

2. He is First (15)

Colossians 1:15 ESV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
"firstborn" does not speak of order of creation. It has to do with rank.
"firstborn" in the Old Testament did not mean they were the first to be born. It denoted one who had a special place in the father's love.
Exodus 4:22 ESV
22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son,
Psalm 89:27 ESV
27 And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
If he is the highest rank of God we must submit to his authority.
Hebrews 1:6 ESV
6 And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”
He is worthy of our worship.

3. He is Creator (16)

Colossians 1:16 ESV
16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
"before all things"= in relation to time- God is not bound by time. He was before time.
Genesis 1:1 ESV
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
John 1:1–3 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Where do we go for answers in this world? We go to the Creator.
We do not get to use our feelings or the thoughts of men.
Jesus created us and he gets to be the one to make the rules. He knows what is best for us.
Perversion is when we go against His design.
Atheists need for creation to be an accident without order. But all of creation points to order and design.

4. He is Controller (17)

Colossians 1:17 ESV
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
"before all things"= temporally as well as in rank.
"In him all things hold together"
Our God did not set everything in motion and then just set back and watch and see what happens.
He is actively involved in holding it all together.
ILL-- Continual predictions of the end in the news.
We spend billions looking into the heavens to see if some big asteroid is coming to wipe us out.
The world will not end by an asteroid. It will end when Jesus returns to this earth to set up a new heaven and a new earth.
Because he is the controller, we must submit to his will. His ways will come about.. His end will come as he has planned.. We must submit to Him.

5. He is Head (18)

Colossians 1:18 ESV
18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
He is the head of the body- the Church.
Ephesians 4:15–16 ESV
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
We cannot grow as believers until we make Jesus the head of our life.
Jesus wants to be pre-imminent in all things. Especially in the church.
He created the Church.
He died for the Church.
Jesus cannot be Lord of your life without you being an active participant in His Church.
Your submission to him as head, brings you into his control and thus part of the Church.
CONCLUSION
Jesus has done everything to be your Lord.
He will be your Lord one way or another.
Philippians 2:9–11 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Will you submit to him as Lord now, which will bring eternal life, or submit to him later as you are thrown into the eternal lake of fire?
Jesus has done everything needed for your salvation.

Jesus is worthy of our surrender.

Will you surrender to him as Lord?
