Before talking about surrender today, I need a Volunteer
Bring bags, hand instruments boomwackers
Give student 30 sec to hold as much as they can
once time is up have student walk around for a bit.
offer student candy but he has to get to me in 5 sec but must have a empty hand
Why does God call us to surrender ?
James 4:7–8 (ESV) 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
We Surrender to resist the devil
we surrender to draw near to God
we surrender to purify our hearts
Surrender is not always easy, but its for the best.
Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
God created us for his will and his work.
we are doing what we are created to do when we are doing what God needs us to do
We are at our best when we are doing what God calls us to do.
Choose to willingly surrender
Philippians 2:14–16 14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
We must choose to let God use us
God will not force you to surrender
God wants you to want to surrender
Just like the student wanted to drop the stuff for the candy we must want to drop our wants, burdans, plans to hold what God wants us to have.
