V 1-16

Nebuchadnezzar has this incredible dream
There was something extra about this dream that immediately led the king to suggest that it was divine communication
Turns to his magicians and says that it is of such gravity that if you can’t tell him the meaning without knowing the dream, they’ll be torn limb from limb
They all have no idea, so they were murdered for their lack of competency
This was not uncommon in this time period
these men’s specific role was to claim divine revelation

V 17-30

Daniel’s heart is still faithful to the Lord
He doesn’t immediately jump to the attention of Nebuchadnezzar to prove himself.
Initial response is to find his friends and ask him to pray on his behalf
Which begs the question, how important is both prayer and biblical community in the life of the faithful believer?
How does God respond to this great and lofty prayer request of Daniel?
He answers it. He tells him what the dream of Nebuchadnezzar was and what its meaning was
“the Mystery was revealed to him”
He did not discern or infer, but God granted him (in full) the knowledge that he prayed for
Daniel gives an incredible poem of praise back to the Lord
He has responded. Yet Daniel does not need the verification of Nebuchadnezzar to know that we he speaks is true
He lfits up praises of sovereignty
God is in ultimate control
The Daniel does something rather radical. He saves the lives of the Babylonian wisemen
He saves the lives of the people who were supposed to be the great wise ones in Babylon (i.e. priests, magicians, etc.)

Daniel tells of this great dream of empires rising and falling

The empires that are to come
Biblically speaking, these are the main powers that are at play
that they will all be destroyed by a kingdom that will never end

Why do you care?

God Rewards faithfulness
V 46-49
God is sovereign and in control
If he could foretell of the powers to come, to acknowledge what is to be at the dawn of empires
