INTRODUCTION
Recap Week 1
We live in an online, digital world. Whether you are on social media and the internet or not. You can’t deny it.
Funny pictures of different mentors and staff that are on social media.
The bible doesn’t talk about social media, the internet, and etc.
Start up of social media wasn’t until 6 degrees.com in 1997. MySpace was 2003, Facebook 2004, YouTube 2005, Instagram 2010
So, the internet’s invention traces back to 1969 (ARPANET), but the modern internet we use today began in 1983 with TCP/IP and exploded in the 1990s with the World Wide Web.
However, just because it doesn’t talk about things that didn’t exist yet doesn’t mean there are certain principles that apply to it just like with everything else in our life.
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Talk through how you are going to be breaking down a profile (instagram profile)
POSTS (what are you putting out into the world)
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
FOLLOWERS (who are the people following you or just seeing your life)
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
You can’t help who sees you and who wants to follow you. But you can help what people see and how you influence them.
FOLLOWING (who are you following and what do you see)
Who is it that is speaking in Matthew 5:13-16? (A: Jesus)
1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
Jesus is who the disciples followed. It is who we should all be following.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
18 “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”
24 Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more.
CONCLUSION
Whether you use it now or not you cannot deny that we will in an online digital world. Even in the cloud you have influence. Your profile, my profile is what is on display both online and in the physical world. Your posts, what you display for others to see, the people that follow you, and those you choose to follow all play a role in how you live for Jesus, how you are the light of the world. How you use your influence for Jesus.
