Cheerful Giving

2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Do ya’ll prefer to receive or to give a gift more??

What does verse 6 mean?

In this context, he is referencing to finances in support of others. But really you can apply this to many things. You reap what you sow!

Paul gives two reasons for the people of corinth to give generously. One is that what we sow is what we reap, the size of the harvest corresponds to what you sow. As well as sometimes a material seed sown can produce a spiritual harvest. What does this mean? That sometimes the Lord can use material things to bring about heart change and witnessing opportunities to his followers.

Prov 11:24-26

The second reason is that God loves a cheerful giver. What does this mean?? God does not care about the size of the gift or amount of money but he cares about the givers sincerity and joyful willingness.

What is God Able to do in verse 8? God is able to supply all the things we need when we need them SO THAT we can excel in good works. We can only give what we have receieved wether that is physical or spiritual.

In verse 10 it cont. that if we are faithful to sow (to Give), God is faithful to supply more resources to use for his kingdom. And because of this, he will increase the harvest, the benefits from these good works that God provides.

In verse 11 it says we will be enriched, What does that mean? It means to have food or nutrients, or improve quality of something.

Why does God want to enrich us for our generosity? it produces thanksgiving!

Does this mean that if we trust in christ we are going to be really really wealthy all the time??? NO!

But this does mean that no matter what, God will always provide what we NEED. Sometimes we think all of our wants are needs but ultimately, God is faithful to provide the things necessary to cary out his will and purpose and if we are abiding in him, we are always taken care of.

What does overflowing in many expressions of thanks to god mean in verse 12? It can mean lots of things! God’s love and Grace should overflow from us wherever we are. Work, school, hanging out with friends, at church, at sonic, wherever!!

In verse 13, who is “they”? Who is paul talking about here? The people who are given to. Our generosity leads to God being glorified.

Verse 15 says, Thanks be to God for his Indescribable gift! What does that mean?

These verses can kind of be broken down into a loop.

God supplies.

We give.

God is Glorified

And then it starts all back over again!!!
