Luke 24:30–32 (NKJV)
24:30Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.
24:31Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.
24:32And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
Jon Courson’s Application Commentary Chapter 24
The travelers were won by the Word. No longer slow of heart, they are on fire in their hearts simply through hearing the Scripture and the experiencing the presence of Jesus. Since we dont have the presence of Jesus like tis passage describes, what we have though is written in
John 16:6–8 (NKJV)
16:6But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
16:7Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
16:8And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Now we will parttake of the elements remembering
Jesus is revealed to us through the breaking of bread and drinking the wine just like Jesus revealed Himself to the disciples on the road to Emaus.
John 6:48–55 (NKJV)
48I am the bread of life.
49Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.
51I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
52The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”
53Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.
54Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.
take the bread: this is Jesus’ body broken for us. Take it and dring
Now take the cup: this is Jesus’ blood, Shed for us , drink it in rememberrance of me.
let’s pray: Thank you Lord for this beautiful reminder of what You have done for us on the cross. Help us to remember this redemptive work after we leave church and go about our week. Lord, give us opportunities to share your love with encouraging words, acts of service, and the message of the Gospel. You are so worthy of our worship. Let us worship you with our hands and feet. In Jesus powerful Name. Amen
