Tell the story of the 3 Little Pigs while some kids act it out!
Tell the story of the 3 Little Pigs while some kids act it out!
This morning there was a question if we were going to have service outside or have to move it inside. This is an important question because the answer determines ow we were going to get ready for the day.
Everyone plans for the day. Some make minimal plans, some plan what they are going to do every hour.
Some people like to plan and some people don’t. My wife and I are on the opposite sides of that spectrum.
I like to know what we are going to do each day before vacation even starts, she is up for deciding the morning of.
Create Tension
It doesn’t matter if you are a planner or not, there is one thing we all need to plan!
What our lives are going to be built on!
Provide Solution
Matthew 7:24–27
“24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.””
This is a familiar passage to almost everyone, whether you were raised in a church or not. But before we get too far into what this passage is saying, I want to note what it does not say…
1. It does not say anything about the house itself.
1. It does not say anything about the house itself.
It Doesn’t give a description of how pretty the house looks.
Do we focus on the looks of the house without any concern with what it is built on?
Curb appeal doesn’t mean its a good house.
I have a place on my house where the soffit was so water damage my hand went right through the wood.
I do want to say that we have to have something that looks appealing to those who don’t know Jesus…
But that has to be something they can’t get anywhere else.
*Peace that passes understanding
*Love that unwarranted”
“Joy that never ends”
It Doesn’t describe how big the house is.
Do we focus on the size of the house without any concern with what it is built on?
The size of the house determines the size of the foundation
***See PDF for information
We hear a lot about christian leaders and their moral failures or them abandoning their faith.
Could it be they built a house too big for the foundation that was set?
2. It does not give specifics on the storms.
2. It does not give specifics on the storms.
a. rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house
The wise and the foolish both faced storm
The size of the storm wasn’t the deciding factor on if the house fell!
It doesn’t matter if it is a 50 mph wind or 130 mph wind, with the right foundation, you will stand
financial crisis
death of a loved one
country in turmoil
hopelessness
identity crisis - midlife crisis
Know this: you can’t build your foundation in the middle of a storm!
Building the foundation of your life in the middle of a storm is like trying to pour concrete in a storm, if you try, you will end up with a weak foundation.
Encourage Change
We all want confidence that we won’t com crashing down when the storms of life hit, and they will hit! So how do we survive?
“24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
Jesus says to listen and to follow…
First we need to hear his words!
Not just hear words but understand the meaning behind the words!
Do we put ourselves in situations where we “hear” God’s Word?

When we have heard his words then we need to heed his words!
We can’t expect to survive this life by just knowing God’s Word, it has to be lived out!
We can’t just come to church or read our Bible and say, “ohh, that’s good!” and then go about the rest of our day without it changing us!
Satan know’s God’s Word…but he will spend eternity in hell!
