Hearing the Call: God's Desire for Our Obedience

Bible Passage: Psalm 81:1-16

Psalm 81 is a celebration and a solemn reminder of God's desire for His people to trust in him and obey Him. Through the call to worship and the recounting of God's past faithfulness, the psalm invites Israel to listen to God's voice and respond with obedience.

Application: The Psalmist teaches that obedience is not just a duty but a response to God's love and faithfulness. As Christians, recognizing God's desire for us to obey can encourage us to align our actions with His will, bringing us closer to Him and allowing us to experience the fullness of His blessings.

Teaching: The Psalmist also teaches that disobedience leads to missed blessings and that true worship involves both praise and a readiness to listen and obey God's commands. It emphasizes the relationship between obedience and experiencing God's provision in our lives.

(v12:  So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans.)

How this passage could point to Christ: Jesus Christ is our model. He embodies perfect obedience to the Father, and through His sacrifice, He opens the way for us to be reconciled with God.

1. Celebrating God's Faithfulness

Psalm 81:1-5

Lets begin with joyful call to worship found in the psalm, worship is an acknowledgment of God's faithfulness and a foundational step in a life of obedience. Israel was reminded to think back(Egypt) to God's previous acts of deliverance. Our worship today should remind us of God's past faithfulness and stir us to commit to His ways and plans

2. Trusting God's Provision

Psalm 81:6-10

Recount God's deliverance of Israel, inviting the listeners to trust in God's provision today. Hearing and obeying God's voice, just as Israel was called to do. We are also called to trust the Lord and to walking in His precepts, to seek God's provision by aligning our lives with His Word, His Well and purpose.

V10 says “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”

Let us ask to Lord for the grace to Listen to Him for Jesus has laid down His life so we can become the Children of God
