Who can we be now?

Talk about how we can be saved.

Romans 10:9–10 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

As image Bearers we have potential and now we have the option of where that potential is placed. There is a war going on for your soul.

Romans 7:21–25 “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.”

A war is waging

1 Peter 5:8–9 “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

Law of sin

This is us after the fall. We are slaves to our sin

We cannot help but follow it. It is the law that rules us and we are powerless to overcome it. You might think you can but sin always comes out

You can change the way you act but sin will come in your mind.

It lies in your heart.

Romans 7:23 “but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.”

Law of the Spirit

Romans 8:2 “because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

Christ has conquered

1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.”

He has power over sin and the grave and he shares it with you.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

2 Corinthians 12:9–10 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

The question at the end of the day is what path are you on. What side of the war? There are two paths.

Matthew 7:13–14 ““Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
