Remember:
Remember:
Back to school reminds us of uncertainty.
How do we get through the unknown?
Moses remember one thing, and do one thing. He said:
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Remember that the Lord our God is one, and love him with all of you.
How does that help?
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Gods are whoever controls the universe.
People believed in a lot of gods, some okay, some evil. They thought that there were scary things out there. When their kids told them there was a monster in the bed, they said, “could be!”
But we know there’s only one God. But who is that one God? If it’s the monster, that’s a BAD THING!
Our God is the one God. The one who watches over us.
Paul explained this a bit more:
yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
So we know there is only one God, and he’s your father!
He made everything in the whole universe
And he made you—for himself.
Sometimes we are ourselves, am I loved? Do I belong? Am I wanted?
God made everyone because he wants them.
So if you exist, God loves you!
God LOVES you.
It gets even better when we know about Jesus:
yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
Paul puts Jesus right next to the father.
That’s where he belongs—after all, he helped create everything!
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Jesus holds all things together. And the Bible says, We live through him!
This means that Jesus, the creator of everything, is with you all the time!
Jesus IS WITH you.
So what do we do? Moses tells us:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
He’s telling us to love God with everything we do.
So LOVE him with EVERYTHING you do.
Remember that God loves everyone he has made. Which is why Jesus added:
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
So how do we do this? Moses told his people:
Deuteronomy 6:6–9 “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
Talk about them. Talk to your kids, parents, family about them. On the way to school, on the way to work, before you go to be.
How did God love you today? How did you love God today?
Tie them on your hands and foreheads. That’s why we have these tags.
Let’s pray.
