The Keys to Church Fellowship

イエスは「永遠のいのちとは、唯一のまことの神であるあなたと、あなたが遣わされたイエス・キリストを知ることです」と言われました（ヨハネ17:3）。歌を通して礼拝する時、目標はキリストに目を向け、神の愛について新しい真理を発見することです。私たちは永遠に続くイエスを知る旅路にいます。

変化の過程

When people visit our church for the first time, they often ask, "What makes Calvary Chapel different?" or "Why is it so lively here?" Many have a preconceived idea that church should be quiet, formal, and liturgical. Over the next four weeks, we'll explore our statement of beliefs to help answer these questions and understand what motivates how we worship and gather together.
The Foundation of Our Fellowship
Calvary Chapel Yomitan has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.
This simple statement contains profound truths about who we are and why we gather. At our core, we are a fellowship of believers who come together in Jesus' name. The Lord desires for us to meet together, as Scripture tells us to "consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (Hebrews 10:24).
Think of making soup - if you want to stir the ingredients, they first need to be in the pot. Similarly, the Lord desires that we gather together so we can stir one another up toward love and good works. When you feel led to come to church, even when struggling, remember that God has something in store for you.
Key #1: Belonging to Jesus
The first key to deep church fellowship is personally belonging to Jesus through faith in Him. This church, like any Christian church, is made up of believers who have given their lives to Christ. While everyone is welcome here, true fellowship comes from sharing the same spiritual family relationship.
John 3:16 reminds us that "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Romans 10:9-11 explains that salvation comes through confessing Jesus as Lord and believing God raised Him from the dead.
Jesus came into this world as God in human form. He lived a perfect life and went to the cross to take the punishment for all our sins. He died and rose again three days later. When we place our faith in Him, we are completely forgiven and adopted as children into God's family. We belong to Christ - He is our safe refuge where we can bring any struggle or concern.
Key #2: Acknowledging Jesus as Lord
The second key is personally submitting our lives to Christ and acknowledging Him as Lord. Ephesians 1:22-23 tells us that God "placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body."
Some might resist the idea of submission, but the more we learn how much Jesus loves and cares for us, the more we realize that submitting to Christ is far better than trying to figure out life on our own. Jesus will lead us in the best direction, and when we gather together, we encourage one another to follow His guidance and step out in faith.
Key #3: Desiring to Know Christ
The third key is personally desiring to know Jesus more and to be transformed into His image. While we come to church for various reasons - fellowship, worship, hearing God's Word, or even the potluck - they all lead to the supreme goal of knowing Jesus better.
Jesus said, "This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent" (John 17:3). When we worship through song, the goal is to lift our eyes to Christ and discover new truths about His love for us. We're on a journey of getting to know Jesus that will continue for eternity.
Romans 8:28-30 reveals God's plan for transformation: "We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him... For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son."
The Process of Transformation
This transformation happens in two ways. First, when you put your faith in Christ, you are instantly transformed - given a new heart. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
Second, there's an ongoing transformation as the Holy Spirit works within us. Like the cicada that emerges from its old shell with wings and new beauty, we are being transformed from glory to glory. This life is preparation for eternity, where we will be glorified with Christ.
Personal Keys to Deep Fellowship
Notice that each key contains the word "personally" - belonging personally to Jesus, submitting personally to Him, and personally desiring to know Him more. We are a group of believers all aiming in the same direction.
When each person in the fellowship is seeking Jesus individually, our conversations have depth and meaning. We can encourage one another beyond surface level and speak into the deeper things God is doing in our lives.
The depth and meaningfulness of our fellowship begins with our personal relationships with Jesus. Remember, the Lord brought you here for a reason today. There's work He wants to do as He draws you to know Him more. As we each grow personally in these three areas, we'll be better equipped to encourage one another and experience the rich fellowship God intends for His church.
