Opening Scripture:
Opening Scripture:
A troublemaker plants seeds of strife;
gossip separates the best of friends.
There is power within our words and how we use them. Theologically in Scripture words are NOT neutral. They are either aligned with the word of God or with the enemy’s purpose.
Gossip is portrayed as a misuse of God’s gift of speech. Gossip tears down instead of building people up.
God values unity among His people. Gossip is not only socially destructive it is rebellious to both the word and the will of God.
Gossip is a reflection of what the enemy did in the garden of eden, which planted seeds of division and disunity between us and God.
Gossip can only destroy your relationships, it never adds value to it.
Gossip destroy’s your relationship with others because it breaks your relationship with God.
What Are You Planting?
What Are You Planting?
I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.
Jesus is the embodiment of both unity and truth
When we choose Gossip, we choose a distorted truth
Gossip mostly comes from a place of anger, hurt, or jealously.
As followers of Jesus we become children of God
Children of God are called to not blend in but stand out from the world
The world loves to engage in gossip — the children of God on the other hand should love to engage in productive conversation that is rooted within the substance of God’s word and spirit.
By gossiping we choose to sow seeds of weeds that are designed by the enemy to choke out the blessing of relationship and community.
What’s Broken, Jesus Can Restore
What’s Broken, Jesus Can Restore
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
Through Jesus our brokenness is restored… Through Jesus our broken relationship with our heavenly Father is restored
Just as Jesus restores our relationship with God our Father — He can restore our broken relationships with people as well.
Where gossip divides, Jesus love reconciles
In order for relationships to heal we must 1) Repent, 2) surrender our heart fully to God, and 3) Put away from us every ungodly behavior.
The Hurt From Within
The Hurt From Within
You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.
gossip just like other forms of evil speech (cursing/foul language, lies, etc.) comes from within our hearts
Scripture teaches us that our hearts can be easily deceived… thats why it is important to fully surrender our hearts to the Lord and to hide God’s word in our hearts as King David prayed in the Psalms.
The saying is true “Hurt people, hurt people”.
Gossip can come from a hurt that someone has caused us
Gossip is the goto the enemy puts in front of you as children of God to cause more division amongst the body of Christ.
Gossip can only hurt and divide… it doesn’t even bring you true peace but instead a false peace.
If you are conversing with someone and you are tempted to start talking about someone, ask yourself would you say these same things if they were present?
Ask yourself is what you are saying about someone else tearing them down?
In order to heal all wounds… in order to bring unity within our communities… in order to bring stability and peace within our relationhips, friendships, and families we MUST deal with the hurt from within.
Will you let Jesus heal the wounds within your heart?
