From the Beginning 1John 1:1-10

1 John 1:1–4 “ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.”
Why do you think John started like this?
I think its because of 2:1-2 which belongs here, its the answer to 1-4
That which, prob might better be translated, Whom or lets read section from the NLT - 1 John 1:1 “ We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.”
John was evangelizing, Jesus isn’t mythology, He’s real. We can have similar testimony.
Can you name a way you can share?
A christian can hang out, even have close acquaintances with those who aren't. But not fellowship. Fellowship is who we worship with, celebrate Christ with, celebrate our salvation. Its true friendship. Because we are related bound, truly by blood.
James 4:4 “ Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
to truly enter into this, we had to die to that old man, Ephesians 2:14–16 “ For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.” Those not in Him are natural enemies - Colossians 1:21 “ And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled”
later John will write 1 John 2:15 “ Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
1 John 1:5–2:2This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, (Holy, righteous) we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
Who is His word?
Holy Spirit/Jesus
We are perfectly imperfect. Even as redeemed, we sometimes slip up. Repent, stop accepting sin in your life. Never defend sin, run from it.
because freedom, forgivness, is ever before us, with us. Not just us, but the whole of humanity what would give their hearts to Him.
hilasmos - the means by which sins are forgiven—‘the means of forgiveness, expiation.’ the satisfactory or required offering for sin.
Its either His death, or ours. He was punished, or we must be. He gives us the choice. Believe and experience that fellowship of the holy spirit.
Jesus truly is enough
