We have been talking about evangelism in the 21st century and what that really looks like today for modern followers of Jesus.
WE learned that Jesus essentially commands His disciples to Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father ,Son ,and Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this : I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
First tonight I want to start off with hearing from my wonderful friend Tegan!
Do Q&A
How do we make disciples ? What is a disciple? A disciple is just a student of a particular teacher adhearing to a certian belief and way of life.
Ask the question “what is the first thing we need to do to make disciples of Jesus?” Allow answers
The first thing we must do before going out and making disciples of Jesus is first to become a true disciple of Jesus ourself!
Now what Im not saying is that you must become perfect before ever sharing the message of Jesus Christ but what I am saying is that we should be actively pursuing Christ and in attempt to be transformed into the image of Christ everyday.
A very popular story in scripture in Matthew 4 we see Jesus calls His first disciples.
READ Matthew 4:18-22
The first disciples of Jesus immediately left what they were doing and begin to follow after Jesus walking with him and watching him learning His teachings seeing His heart for people and then attempting to become like Him.
It was never perfect, The disciples mess up and they argued about useless things like which of them was the greatest. Peter even denied Jesus 3 times , Philipp questioned who Jesus was even after he had been walking with Him for years.
We are to be walking in sanctification with Jesus which means we are to allow God to cleanse us and mold us into the image of Christ everyday of our life. It doesn’t stop on this side of eternity because we are human beings and we are incapable of perfection. BUT with the power of the Holy Spirit we can be shaped and molded more into the image of Christ by saying no to our sinful desires and the patterns of this world.
So we give our life to Jesus and we get out of the old boat and get in the boat with Jesus and begin to practice His ways then we begin to teach others the ways of Jesus and we do this first by showing them. And that can look like Hospitality or acts of serves or words of encouragement or even being a listening ear to someone going through a difficult situation. ITs not always about what we can say but sometimes about how we listen that may get someone curious about the Jesus that we serve.
