Main Scripture: Acts 2:42–47
1. Opening Hook (2 minutes)
1. Opening Hook (2 minutes)
Ask: “What do you think makes a great family? Is it eating meals together? Having each other’s backs? Inside jokes?”
Explain: In Acts 2, we get a picture of what the very first church family looked like. Spoiler—it was way more than just meeting once a week.
2. Scripture Reading (3 minutes)
2. Scripture Reading (3 minutes)
Read Acts 2:42–47 out loud together.
Key part (v. 42): “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
3. Breaking It Down (10 minutes)
3. Breaking It Down (10 minutes)
a. Devoted to Teaching & Fellowship (v. 42)
They were committed to learning about Jesus together.
Fellowship = sharing life, not just hanging out.
👉 They grew closer to Jesus by growing closer to each other.
Discussion Question:
What’s one way we can grow closer to Jesus together, not just on our own?
b. Sharing & Caring (v. 44–45)
They shared everything so no one was in need.
That’s radical generosity—it showed their love was real.
👉 God’s family looks out for each other.
Discussion Question:
What are some ways we can show generosity—not just with money, but with time, encouragement, or attention?
c. Worshiping Together (v. 46–47)
They met daily to worship, eat, and pray.
Their joy and unity made people notice—and more people came to know Jesus.
👉 Living as God’s family is one of the best witnesses to the world.
Discussion Question:
How do you think our unity as a youth group could show others what Jesus is like?
4. Application (4 minutes)
4. Application (4 minutes)
Challenge: This week, try living out one “family habit” from Acts 2.
Eat with someone you normally wouldn’t.
Pray for a youth group member by name.
Share something encouraging or helpful with someone in need.
5. Wrap-Up & Scripture Engagement (1 minute)
5. Wrap-Up & Scripture Engagement (1 minute)
Option A (Journal Prompt):
“If our youth group acted more like the family in Acts 2, what would change? What’s one way I can personally help make that happen?”
Option B (Memory Verse):
Write down Acts 2:42 on a note card:
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
Challenge them to keep it visible this week (in a locker, on a mirror, etc.) and try to memorize it.
Prayer: Thank God for the gift of the church family, and ask Him to help us live it out with love, unity, and generosity.
