Fakers or Followers

What is the hardest thing you have ever been asked to do?
Deployed to Saudi story-
Being a follower in not always easy.
I want to be honest - not like some
It does take sacrifice and calls for it.
Matthew 16:24–25 ESV
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Fakers or Followers

Take up cross - doesn't meant wearing it
Intense - electric chair
Think about it:
If you had to choose from never watching Netflix or never read your Bible. which would you choose?
If you had to choose from missing youth or missing a party or trip to a theme park, which would you?
I f you had to choose from friends who are pressuring you to do something wrong and choosing different friends, which would you?
Don't answer but be honest with yourself.
Some of those sound extreme
We think when Jesus says you may loose your life it is a metaphor, but the reality is there are people who are doing just that.
Yet they keep going, keep pushing forward
That's what we are looking at tonight.
Let’s pray

Self or Others

Fakers sacrifice others to serve themselves. Followers sacrifice themselves to serve others.
Ever heard the Story of the Good Samaritan?
Luke 10:25–26 ESV
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”
Luke 10:27–29 ESV
27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Self or Others

Looking for answers
Love meant more - I love ribs I love my Wife
Real love is action
Real love is sacrifice
Love is a choice to sacrifice yourself for the good of another

Self or Others

Luke 10:30 ESV
30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.
Luke 10:31–32 ESV
31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
Luke 10:33–34 ESV
33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
Luke 10:35 ESV
35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’
Luke 10:36 ESV
36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”

Self or Others

it is same question today - who is it?
Luke 10:37 ESV
37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”
Sacrifice yourself to serve someone else.
We don’t do what is convenient, we do what is right , even if it is hard

Self or Others

This is what it means to Love God with everything
We do that by loving others
We sacrifice for others because He sacrificed for us.
He said it:
Matthew 16:24–25 ESV
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
What sacrifice can you do for someone else this week?
Let’s go to our small groups and talk it over.
Let’s pray
