We are finally in the New Testament
But like when we went through the Old Testament and refereed to the New Testament we will referee back to the Old Testament
This morning sort of feels like Christmas
Because we are looking at the birth of Christ
14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
This was written some 700 years before the birth of Christ
This was the ultimate birth announcement right
That the Lord will give you a sign a virgin someone who has not had sex will have a child
The Hebrew word here would have been understood a young women of marriageable age
Someone who has not been married yet had no children
There were women who were not married and had children but Isaiah is telling us this is part of the sign
It will be a women who is not married but of marrying age and who does not have children a virgin
Because it was understood if you were not married you were a virgin
And church that is how we should teach it now and how we should expect our young people to go about life
We see this being fulfilled in
20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” 24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, 25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.
Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus
It was conception by the Holy Spirit
See the Virgin birth is key the coming of Christ
Because it was foretold some 700 years before it actually happened
And church it is what makes Jesus the Son of God without the virgin birth Jesus is just a really good teachers
Without the virgin birth Jesus is just the son of a carpenter
It is what makes him the Son of God and not the Son of Joseph
26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29 But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. 30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. 31 “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. 32 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.” 34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.
This is how Jesus was born
The Holy Spirit came upon Mary who was still a virgin as she was engaged to be married to Joseph
How awkward for Jospeh and Mary they were engaged to be married and now she is pregnant
This wasn’t and isn’t how it is supposed to be
And in the midst of all the awkwardness of the engagement and pregnancy
God continues to proceed with the plan
The plan to bring salvation to a lost world
And through the Holy Spirit she conceived Jesus who would be born and come into the World
but it should be noted that Jesus didn’t come to live as He is a part of the trinity and is not a created being
As part of the trinity Jesus was there before there was a there
For Him to be born He stepped out of heaven to come and dwell among His creations
6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
This is the birth of Jesus
That Jesus stepped out of glory that is Heaven
To be born as a human baby , a helpless, needy, hungry, infant
Think of a baby and all that is needy for a baby, that is how the savior of the world entered into his creation
And to dwell among his creation because of His love for us
That is a kind of love we struggle to wrap out minds around
Do you understand that the birth of Jesus is so important because it was the conduit that brought about salvation to us
It is the plate that brought up salvation
This was the plan all along to bring about salvation to an entire lost and broken world
You see Jesus came for salvation
For you
17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
We know that Jesus didn’t step out of the glory of heaven for nothing
We know that Jesus didn’t come to condemn or bring about judgement
But rather Jesus came that people might be saved
Saved from what you may ask
Saved from a condition that you couldn’t deal with on your own
Saved from an eternal seperation from Him
Jesus said I love you so much that I will step out of glory and into humanity so they can spend eternity with Me in Heaven
If they will repent of their sin and trust in Jesus
He came to save you from the sin in your life
Sin is like a sickness that left unchecked will kill you
Jesus is the cure for that sin in your life
If you will repent of your sin and trust in Jesus to be Lord of your life
Then you will be saved you will have life and have it abundantly only in Christ
Salvation is only through Jesus and Jesus alone
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
With out the birth of Christ we don’t have salvation
Now we know that God could have saved us however He wanted to save us and wouldn’t you know this is how He chose to do it
To send His only son Jesus to step out of glory and into humanity to be born as a human baby
To bring salvation to an entire world
That is why we can celebrate the brith of Christ more than just on Christmas
That is why we can praise the Lord for the coming Christ
He stepped out of glory to be born of a virgin in a manger
And the first people to find out about His birth
They weren’t the rich
They weren’t the educated
They weren’t the religious
They were the humble shepherds
8 In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 “This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” 15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. 17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
The angels told them about Christ
They went and found salvation to a lost world as a baby
They go back and return to work forever changed because they had encountered the living God
It is the birth of Christ that makes it possible for you and I to encounter the living God
He came so that you and I could experience Him
Praise the Lord Church Jesus came to be born to save us
So that we could experience Him
That is the question
Will you experience Him
Will you experience Him in such away that you are forever changed
This is what we have talked about all year
It starts with salvation
Are you willing to repent of your sin and to trust Him to be Lord of your life
Are you wanting to your willing to step out of darkness and into light and life this morning
Are you willing to be bold and a light in a dark and lost world
Are you willing to put your faith into action and take Jesus with you as you go about your daily life
As we come to our time of closing this morning and move to our time of invitation
That is the invitation
I wold invite you this morning to do just that
Experience God that is only available because of the Birth of Christ in such away that you are forever changed
Maybe you want to be saved this morning
There will be people down front who you can speak with about salvation
Maybe you need to spend sometime in prayer this morning

To know and see that Jesus would come some 700 years before and even how

Virgin Birth
The virgin birth is key to this
It is what makes Jesus the Son of God and not the son of man and just a really good teacher
The virgin birth means that she did not have sex till after she was married and had given birth to Jesus
The virgin birth means that Jesus stepped out of all His glory in heaven and put on humanity
