Mattthew 10:37-39
37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
There is an escalation of sacrifice
Mother or father
They watch over you and take care of you so your affection will surely be there as well as gratitude.
They also teach you and raise you.
Son or daughter
You watch over them and the love must be deeper because they are your responsibility.
There is arguably no relationship with another physical person that is deeper than the love of a parent for their child.
Yourself
Oftentimes this is where majority of people’s love truly lies.
To take up your cross is to die to yourself.
Worthy of Jesus - understanding his worth
What makes him worth it?
Because he saved you - yes logically our lives must be given to him. But salvation is only as good as your understanding of death.
Because he loves you
The much deeper reason because it shows us the intention behind his saving of us
He is good; therefore, we know he does not take advantage of us.
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
He walked the walk.
Are you prepared to live according to that understanding of who God is?
