The Heart of the MATTer
Matthew 5:6–8 ““Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
What is Righteousness?
Is a right relationship with God, desiring to live in accordance with God’s will.
Living life to glorify God.
Hunger and Thirst
This is more than just “Sure, I’ll add this in. Throw it into my schedule.” It’s a craving.
Satisfied
What do you live for?
Does it satisfy?
We are designed to glorify God. And we seek satification outside of that, we will always end up unsatisfied and thirsty/hungry for more.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
What is mercy
Mercy is not receiving what we do you do deserve.
Why do we give mercy?
We can give mercy because we have received mercy because of what Jesus did on the cross.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Pure in heart
Glass of water.
Is this pure? It looks like it is. But if I took a drink, it would not taste pure.
What does it mean for us? Single-minded devotion to God.
What makes your heart not pure? Idols.
What is in your heart? What motivates you? What is #1 in your life?
See God
Experiencing his presence. Understanding his character and will.
